Title: New Year's Day Cold Butt Ride
Post by: LowRyter on December 26, 2021, 04:31:22 PM
Seaba Station Motorcycle Museum (Warwick OK on Rt 66) is sponsoring the "Cold Butt Ride" on New Year's Day.  Most riders get there around noon and stay for the one o'clock bike raffle which is for a Honda XL250.

Forecast calls for high 50's, so only the most hearty and brave riders should attempt this journey.  It is winter after all and it might even be cloudy.

I'm meeting up with a group that's leaving about 11:30 from Pop's, weather permitting.   :bike-037:

I'd be smiling if it hit the high 50's. The highest I've seen for the last couple of months is low 50's.     It has been snowy the last couple of weeks so no riding at all. I always try to get in at least a few miles on NYD but not looking good for this year.

For many years, there was an informal riding group in the Phoenix / Tempe area called "B.I.G." (British-Italian-German) :boozing: :thumb:

...and each year on New Year's Day, they gathered to ride from Phoenix / Tempe to RIDE Tortilla Flat.

Always a lot of fun, and I am too far away up here in northern AZ now, but I believe it is still a tradition...and it is still being held now...and moreover, "The Apache Trail" road is all repaved, so I here it's nice ride there to  again!

I was BBQ-ing a tenderloin on Xmas day.  It was 75, only 6 degrees cooler than the previous 4th of July.  I texted a buddy that lives in Pacifica, he said it was 46 and raining.

But in seriousness about the ride, the weather is supposed to turn cool around New Year's day.  The ride window to Seaba might be pretty narrow.

My phone says it's going to hit much earlier and the temp will only be 35 at noon.  We'll just play it by ear.

Of course, I'm free any time during the week if you want to meet for lunch or coffee.

I bring out one of these videos every year about this time. I've ridden theI cycle derby many times. It's been going on continuously for 77 years.

That's clearly nuts, FG.   I living that far north causes cabin fever?

Checked the forecast a bit ago which gave the Noon temperature for New Years Day.  Not pleasant for a round trip of 160 miles.  I'm tough, but not that tough.
How about a meet up for lunch say at 1PM on Thursday.  Phone call in the morning for details?

On Sunday, Dec. 26th, the temperature in Kodiak, Alaska, hit 67 degrees Fahrenheit, setting a December record-high for a state that has become used to them as climate change continues to rewrite history.
