Hey all,
I know a few on here must have those 200cc red Coleman minibikes , I have been seeing ads pop up that look like walmart and home depot warehouse centers selling them for 89.00 and free shipping.
It seems to look legit but I sense its a scam. Ive also seen people comment on FB and some claim to have gotten them and others are waiting. I know they are about 500-600 or retail.
Anyone else see these ads?
-
Something very wrong with that. If it seems too good to be true....then it is.

-
Yes, I have seen the adds but would not bite.
-
I saw two today from the same scam outfit. One is for a 24 pack of Dewalt cordless tools including extra batteries, chargers and cases for only $99.00.
The second was for a Segway electric bicycle only $89.00 . Unbelievable :copcar:

Not sure of the price, but I coincidentally walked by a Coleman minibike on the floor of a Tractor Supply store yesterday. There was one assembled, and two more still in the shipping boxes.

Same ads out there for lowes sheds, and other things also. Check out the comments on the ads, and all the posters are clearly made up profiles. Big time scam.

I would not buy one, cyl faces back toward swingarm. May be a cooling problem, carb & airbox is in front of cyl restricting air to cyl.
Chinese junk.

"Money back guarantee!" They actually do give you your money back. Here is how it works: ad is for something that retails for $400, their price is $99 with free shipping. You pay by credit card and they take your $99 and put it in the bank. Time passes...
After a given period they contact you. The item is no longer available. They apologize and you get your money back in full, returned to your credit card. You are made whole so no complaints. During the time your money is in their account it earns THEM interest. Multiply your $99 by 10,000 customers. Now 100,000...
Dire Straights said it best. It's money for nothing.

That sounds plausible, but one still gets the product though...

Chinese junk.
Fan forced air-cooling, just like millions of Briggs & Strattons, Tecumsehs, Clintons, Kohlers, Wisconsins, etc. Doesn't need air flow from forward motion to stay cool.

I ordered a $700 name brand musical instrument for $65.
I got a tracking number and all.
The package arrived containing two oven mitts.
Guess other people got face masks 😷 .
This was a well enough known fraud that the minute I notified my charge account they issued an instant refund.
I suspect this scooter is a similar deal.

Saw one at Princess Auto (cdn version of Harbour Freight) a few months back and it caught my eye. There was a spot of oil on the floor under it.

Ya think BSA had anything to do with manufacturing it?

As I have stated before on this forum...the very first SOLO ride on two wheels, at age 12, was on a TACO-22 mini-bike, which belonged to my cousin's rich friend, Bob. We flogged that little bike around his property on Route 9, just outside of Beacon, New York for hours on end. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
See the link below. Cool beans all around!! :thumb: :boozing:

Multiply your $99 by 10,000 customers. Now 100,000...
Maybe that is $990,000? If they can do that every month, they get an interest free loan of about $1 million, not bad. But that is a lot of paperwork and you'd think the credit card companies would catch on and not accept their business, putting them on some deadbeat listing. And if the customer's catch on and dispute these transactions quickly, that could shrink their business model too.
-
...and here is the legendary TACO-22...in all its glory!! :thumb:   :boozing:

That is a cool minibike. What engine is that. I had trouble with the website.

Traditionally, minibikes have a four-stroke, horizontal crankshaft engine, (3HP Briggs & Stratton back in the day), single- or two-speed centrifugal clutch transmissions with chain final-drive, 4" or 6" wheels and a low frame/seat height with elevated handlebars.

I understand all that, when I was a kid minibikes and gocarts were the thing. I built a goca4t myself with Clinton engine. I was wondering what make this one is. It doesn't look familiar. Maybe Chinese?

I like those Taco's! I got a kick out of their top model ...build the "bike of your dreams"....? My dreams reach a little bit farther than a Taco minibike. They are cool though. I need to ride a Honda Navi and a Trail 125. I think doing the BDR thru NY state would be a hoot on one. The BDR is the Back Roads Discovery routes, for those that are unfamiliar. In the NE we can do from NY to Maine on a mix of dirt roads, trails and back roads. I would love to do it.

Then, of course, there is always the *NEW* Benelli TNT135!! Cool beans all around!! :thumb:   :boozing:
They tell me little motorcycles are a BLAST to ride!

My best buddy back in 1969 had a Rupp, and I thought it was super cool. But Honda had recently come out with the CT70 and I used my newspaper delivery and lawn cutting money to order one. While it was on order the CT70H came out, the 4 speed with a clutch, and I became the first guy to get one of them at the dealer. I was 12 and I took that thing all over the mountains and trails where I lived.

I remember those Honda 70's and 90's. They were everywhere.
I had just turned 13, and bought a brand new 1971 Honda SL100 in John Deere green. I was SOMEBODY in those days.

I think in '71 I traded the CT70H for an SL125! What a great bike that was!

I wonder if the current day Honda Monkey 125 is a way to re-live that youth

You know...you can't ever go back, (IMHO), and like the Benelii TNT135, the Honda Monkey 125 is a cool little bikes, but on the street, I worry you would be very hard to see...and might get run over by some HUGE truck or SUV...Maybe just around town or the back roads..(???)
That being said, maybe a Royal Enfield Himalayan (full-size bike) might be a better option...Just my humble opinion...
-
I personally think the Himalayan is a great bike. I probably would own one if it were not for my legs....at 6'1" my knees hit directly onto the tank crease. And it's not really a small bike....just doesn't fit me. For those who care the bike was designed, at least visually....not sure about technically, but Ducati's main designer. And I think it looks super cool. If they would bump it up to a 500 I would probably grab one. But there is a 650 twin coming with some ADV design built in and also rumors of a water cooled 450 ADV bike that is more modern. But I like the simplicity of the current 411. As long as you are not in a hurry it seems that bike will go almost anywhere.

I had a Rupp mini-bike like this one:
They were made in Ohio and marketed in bicycle shops. I actually had two Rupp’s and the first one was the stripped down bike with no headlight and it was stolen from our garage, then I got the above model but didn’t ride it as much as the first bike. It would be fun to have it now but the prices of these bikes have raised substantially over the years.

I rode one of those Monkeys. It's pretty cool - but 40mph feels like 80 on a regular size bike.
That new Honda Trail 125 might be interesting.
