Hello fellow Wildgoose Members, this is Erik Peterson, Randy's son using his account.
Saddened to have to announce the passing of my Father, Edwin Randolph (Randy) Peterson II on Sunday night January 16th, 2022. He passed at home peacefully in his sleep with his wife nearby. Our whole family had just completed celebrating the holiday season before he passed, he was ecstatic to have seen us all together again and was in great spirits of late.
Randy had become weakened from a bout Shingles, and a blood cancer that left him hospitalized previously in July – August timeframe, after which he had lost strength and was restricted to a wheelchair use. He and my mother moved down to Spring Lake, so we could provide more aid then a bout of --19 in this last wave caught him unexpectedly and was too much for him.
He loved his Guzzi's riding, maintaining and socializing with all of the Guzzi Family and aiding in the last few years with the Michigan Rally.
I will miss him greatly. Per his wishes we are not having a formal funeral, our family will be planning a celebration of life gathering next spring with a final date and location yet to be determined.
I will follow up with a post to this group when plans get made.
Thank you,
Erik Peterson

Very sorry for your families loss. Randy gave me a Moto Guzzi licence plate when I rode to FL passing the flywheel for that dip in the Gulf with Dan R. Couldn't meet a nicer guy, that's for sure. The MGNOC Guy's will sure miss him.

Aww, sorry. As Steve said "Couldn't meet a nicer guy,"
we've had some really good times with Randy and Louise.
Dorcia and I will face the West, raise a glass and wish him a good trip this evening.

Erik,
We did not know Randy, and that is clearly our loss.
Your post telling us of his passing was a generous act and an elegant epitaph.
He was undoubtedly proud of you.
Best wishes to you and your family for a peaceful passage as you weather this personal storm.

So sorry to hear this Erik. Randy and I became friends when he and Louise moved down here to Ingliss, FL for a short time. Last saw him at the WI Rally 2 or 3 years ago. We shared some fun rides.

My condolences to you Erik and the family. I must add that we lost a great engineer also. Randy and I had a couple long chats about the challenges and his accomplishments at Detroit Diesel and even about maintaining design software (in Fortran iirc!). Good stories about a wonderful (affluent!) childhood and Louise is a trip! ... a motorcycling mathematician. I'm sorry for her loss. Thanks much for a thoughtful notice. Randy was how I'd characterize Guzzi folks and I'll miss him.

Randy sought me out a few years ago at the Wisconsin Rally after noticing my red '08 Norge and offered me an extra set of red fairing lowers for just the cost of shipping. After I picked my jaw up off the ground, the deal was struck .
A week or so later, the pieces arrived packed and padded so securely, it took me a good 45 minutes to unwrap it all.
He didn't have to go to all that trouble and forego the possibility of profit, but that's a true Guzzista for you!
Hope they have motorcycles and curvy roads wherever you are now, Randy. :thumb:

Erik, I'm so sorry for your loss.
I'm new around here and did not have the pleasure of meeting your dad. Judging from what folks have already shared in this thread, he was a kind, thoughtful, intelligent problem-solver and loyal friend, who loved bikes and the people who ride them. In short, a model for us all.
Godspeed to him. As the Quakers say, I am holding your family in the light.
