I compared the Griso R1200R and R9T, back in 2015, bought the Griso.

Each has their own feel and vibe. The R1200R was the most conventional, and boring the R9T the 'sportiest' and modern, the Griso was the most 'muscle car' and old school in feel.

Decent video comparison of the Griso, R9T and Honda CB.

No experience with the new V7 850, but it is in a different class than the Griso and R9T.

FWIW, I would pick the V7iii over the R1200R, and the Griso over the 9RT unless ABS and a more nimble chassis was important.  It isn't and the Griso is exactly what I want from a motorcycle. If I was 30, and still hitting it hard, the R9T would be the EASY choice.

I think the 9RT is the newest and fastest of the bunch.  The last Griso 8V would give the Beemer a run but there are also less powerful versions that are great bikes and some early 8V with reliability issues that need upgraded rockers.  The other two have their charm but aren't in the same class for power.

Completely depends on what you’re looking for. I owned an ‘11 V7 Classic — fun bike and very engaging, but sold it years ago due to concerns about ongoing maintenance and dealer support. Among other bikes, I currently have a ‘12 R1200R Classic (camhead) and think it’s fabulous. Terrific handling, very lively but grunty engine, perfect and precise gearbox, powerful brakes, and having owned many different BMW’s over the years, I’m a huge fan of the Telelever front suspension on these bikes. It may not be for everyone, but I really like mine. The R NineT uses the same engine.

Isn't the R1200R faster than any of the other bikes ?

 Dusty

Perhaps you're right.  I was thinking it was a mid '00's bike.  Forgot they used the same nomenclature for the newer naked water cooled bike, which would be the fastest of the lot.  I suppose it would depend on the year?   I guess the "camhead" nick name threw me wrong.  I always thought of the newer bikes as "waterboxers".

Anyway, nice to see you Dusty.  It's been some time.

Also didn't mean to mess with the Beemer experts.

A "camhead" is air- and oil-cooled. In 2015 the R1200R became a "wethead" and so received partial water cooling (and more power).

I can't help you except to say I like them all but only own the smallbock Guzzi currently.

I not infrequently consider the R9T.

The Griso is probably just not me.

Is the Camhead the one you have to unbolt the Camshaft Cassette and change shims on. I just don't want bikes with shims, if I don't have to have them.

But they are all tempting.

Sorry, yeah, I know that's no help.

I can only speak from the seat of an 8v GRiSO. 38,000miles from new.
Very simple in execution, none of the "bells and whistles" found on contemporary bikes. Definitly a rawness in which it goes about it's business. Visceral. Shakes, rattles and roars, even with stock exhaust.
Most reliable bike I've ever owned. Smiles EVERY time, on every ride.
Abbreviated fuel tank range (for some). Sensitive to front tire pressures (couple p.s.i. low and it feels sluggish..). Millions of O-rings to contend with as these are tubeless spoked wheels.

The GRiSO is quite unique in design and after all these years still looks fresh.
Going to be one of Guzzi's "Greats" and already is in my book!
In some respects a modern day Vincent, or in my view the perfect sportster.
Yes, I am smitten..  Shouldn't we all be with our choices??

Beautiful bike and yes we all should be smitten with our choices and it’s so good to have choices!
Did you put bar backs on and lower the front pegs?

With the wetheads you have to pull the cams out to change out shims.

With the camheads, cams stay in place, you need to remove an "E" clip to slide the followers around to get to shims (pretty easy to do, no way to mess up timing).  Shims are strange hemisperical design, so off to the BMW shop for shims.  But word is they rarely need shims.

Also seems the US folks call them "camheads" and Euro folks call them "twin cam".

I owned an 07 R1200r up until last year , a phenomenal bike in my opinion . I’d still have it if I weren’t aging out , In the last few years it was getting a bit heavy & tall (i recently hit 70 ) @ 5’5” with a 29” inseam it was a challenge with my camping kit on board I surprised many sportier bikes with it’s ability . 500 mile days were no problem . Also 07 was the last year w/o maintenance light .Ive currently got a V7/850 aquite pleasant bike too

I fabricated 1" risers for bars, yes.
Installed Knight Design lower pegs also to open it up some.
At 5'11" 240lbs the bike is a great fit.
Have only made 2 small valve adjustments in 38k miles and that was quite a while back.
  Holding steady.
One day I may do the "Beatle map" as I've heard good things..

Then I stick by my original statement....Your honor  :boozing: :boozing:
