I’ve got a new sweet cam to install on my v7 sport project.
However I can’t remove the original dowel or locating pin from the old cam.
How are these supposed to be removed? Is there an adhesive?
Thanks for any help.

That’s what I thought. In the past I feel like I’ve seen them fall out. I even hit this with some heat and it didn’t budge. I’ll try harder tomorrow.

Machine shop nearby?
Machinists have dedicated tools for removing dowels.
Using Vise-grips on a truly stuck dowel will likely scar it.

Order a new one and leave the old one in the cam, unless your in hurry. it’s just a 5/16” or 8 mm pin (by memory, probly wrong)so you could make one easily

Good idea Rodekyll. Although I found one on the bay for $15 shipped. I’m in no hurry as my crank is still two weeks out.

Have made them using a 7 mm stainless valve stem.

At first glance I saw " Cam dowel " and mistook it for ...
" Calm down "

What did you heat? The pin or the cam? Try to heat the cam but use a wet rag to cool the pin (maybe even some electronics spray Freeze Out). You want differential dimension change. The hole and the pin will both expand with heat. Worst case is just heating the pin.
