Subject/title to be read in your best Roseanne Rosanna Danna voice...
So, I've seen a lot of dissing the tank on the V9. Many folks suggest swapping in the tank from a V7. Here is an example I found here in Italy while perusing the classifieds:

But, I'm not so sure-- the truly bold/inspirational (?) move would be to put the V9 tank on another Guzzi. A V65 anyone?

I haven't seen the tank in person, but I'm liking that V65.

The V9 tank is awesome, with its Triumph X-75 Hurricane vibe.
Only problem I see with it is less fuel capacity, a lot less than the big V7 Classic tank.

I think that the V9 tank is far better looking than the V7s and I can forgive its shorter range
Especially as my ass range with the current seat is much less than the the tank range
The seat is work in progress :thumb:

Looks great on the v65, but good god, get rid of those absurd gators!
-
it takes the v65 in the wrong direction.. but the more I look at that picture, the less sense it makes.

I dont dislike the V9 tank as much as I used to. I think some of the bias initially came from the fact that the V9 is so close to a V7, and that the V7 has a superior tank in regards to nostalgia and fuel capacity. At least it’s not a tiny peanut tank.
Those radiator hoses or whatever are on the forks are straight up hilarious.
-
Those aren't fork gaiters- they're drain (tile) hoses ..

My second guess was going to be the hose off a shop vac

Owning a 77 LeMan's of course I like the V7 to 850 tank but the V9 is not bad, retro is fine but your just copying the past, the V9 was a fresh design.

At 3.96 Gallons the V9 tank is a little on the small side but it still has a good range.
A few years back I hired a 1200 Guzzi and I was riding with my Bro on his Roamer. We were both looking for gas about the same time but when we filled up I was paying for 50% more than he was.

I was a bit concerned about the smaller capacity of my V9 Bobber tank when I bought it. My previous ride having been a 2012 Stelvio NTX. After two years of riding the V9 it has turned out not to have been any issue at all. I have always liked the looks of the tank and have spent my money on other mods to get the bike just the way I want it.

At first I was a bit concerned about the tank size but it’s turned out to be about right. When I need a refill my 72 yr old butt needs a break.
-
My new Bonneville has an only 3.9 gallon tank. I thought that may be a problem but most owners report 55 mpg or better so I guess it won't be a problem at all. My butt can't last that long but there are a couple of stretches in Nevada that are 160 miles or better.

What seat are you running Zm?
I have the solo "allegedly" comfort low ride - Low it might be but comfortable it 'aint!
I'm about to commence negotiations for this

I have to say that the V9 tank has grown on me from a looks standpoint.
But if I eventually buy one I would still be really tempted to get both the looks and the range of the additional 1.6 g found in the V7 tank.
The heart wants what the heart wants.

I love the looks of my V9 tank. No complaints about the range. Biggest issue isn't the tank itself but the ridiculously early fuel light which I think led some to believe the tank was too small when there's still plenty in there.
I just use the trip odometer now and pretty much ignore the fuel light.

The V9 tank is a superb sculpture, an exceptional aesthetic statement! Remains me of a classic Riva yacht.
Ciao

Yes! Once I figured out that early fuel light and found out just how much further I could run on a tank full I no longer had any issues with the range on tap. :thumb:

Same here!

V9 Roamer still my favorite Guzzi.
I personally think the tank is a kind of work of art in person. Adore it.
I’m not expecting anyone here to say the same nor even necessarily believe me, but my Roamer got better mpg overall than either of my V7s (2014 and V7III). As usual, YRMV. I regularly got near 200 range on my V9 and probably even exceeded it a couple times whereas my V7s would get me about 240ish which works out about right mathematically to what I got in terms of mpg with the V7s (44-48). In contrast, my Roamer almost always got 50 or more depending.

Another happy-with-this-motorcycle post about the V9 Roamer. Just passed 60,000mi on my 2017. My comment on the gas tank: it is indeed small (my first Guzzi was a CalIII with a 6-gallon tank), but as others have testified, I consistently get 50 mpg, except against the wind, all the usual. I rode a 2000 Jackal for many years prior to this Roamer. Roamer has about the same range as the Jackal did. Not saying all that much I know, but I'm used to about 200 mi per tank. I ran the thing dry - out of gas on purpose - pulled into the station chugging&wheezing (bike) right at 200 mi. That day was a lot of mountain riding & I was pulling uphill as I wheeled into the station. Seems to like it when I ride it like a madman.

We've almost gotten 200 miles out of the 3.8g on the Monster (at least with Jenn in the saddle). That's currently our smallest tank.
But the V7's, we don't get the low fuel light till at least 200, and even then we know we're good till at least 275.
I really like the V9s, but I still want the V7 tank.
-
Old topic, but still relevant. I think a 300 mile range or more is nice, but my Roamer always deliver more than 200 miles, which is acceptable, if not great. Worst theoretical range to empty I have experienced was 207 miles, best 266.
Still, I would not mind double the capacity.
My strongest dislike, though, is the narrow shape that prevent a comfortable knee grip. Not a fan of of the shape design-wise either, but it is OK.
Seat is functionally much worse than the tank limitations by a long stretch, anyway :violent1:

Any XR1200 rider would laugh reading this thread…we start looking for the next gas station while putting on the gas cap after filling up.

Buy an older Tonti fuel tank, 6.5 gal

I would be more worried about the seat it's extremely uncomfortable for a pinion passenger.
My bro picked me up with his V9 Roamer in Onehunga and took me to Guzzi Gander on the North shore (Auckland)
All the way I was worried I might fall off the back.

I have never tried to bring a pillion on my Roamer, because at best it is a 1.5 seat. And pretty agonizing even riding solo.
