Title: JP Jones take: When the Levee....
Post by: LowRyter on February 21, 2022, 12:24:09 PM
If you're an old time Zeppelin fan, you might get a kick out of this.  Of course if you aren't, I'm sure we'll hear from you too.

Can't imagine how they pulled that off.  In my best Austin Powers voice, "VERY Cool, baby!"

Caught that the other day and really enjoyed it. Taj also has a good one as well as Cat Stevens. Great stuff. Be warned, you'll be headed down a YouTube rabbit hole

Went down the rabbit hole a while back.  Love the original post and link!  Thanks!

Here's the 1927 version - gotta love Mississippi Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy!

"When the Levee Breaks" is a country blues song written and first recorded by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929. The lyrics reflect experiences during the upheaval caused by the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927.

Yep, it's on Led IV  Ruins album.  Fantastic too.  Bozo's drums have been sampled countless times, he played them in open stairwell to get that booming echo.  https://youtu.be/uwiTs60VoTM

Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy recorded it per the other You Tube above.

I could add Bob Dylan's take as well.  https://youtu.be/cnEJelx5q4k

At least that is one song the Zep folks give credit.

Worlds foremost plagiarizers.

Did you ever read the Rolling Stone interview with Linda Ronstadt,  to paraphrase she says she doesn’t write any songs she interprets them. But at least she credited the originals. Led Zep IMO we’re some of the most amazing interpreters of the 60-70 music scene.
