Last I saw mine was less than a year ago.
Figured as I had a new one around I'd pop it in, though it had only been 7k miles. Until recently I've split riding between 3 different bikes, still managed about 500+ miles a month on the GRiSO. It never sits around for any real length of time. Imagine my SHOCK when popping the lid off the airbox to find a crap load of birdseed! :thewife:
The amount was crazy :shocked:. Thankfully nothing got past the filter, although that had been chewed on some (seeds laying in box are post filter removal) and luckily no wires were molested...Guess they must dig ethanol-free fumes :boozing:
Don't take nothing for granted, secure that birdseed laying around your garage and peek in your airbox after a winters slumber before riding season kicks in. Sure glad I did!

I had the same problem last spring, here's the 1400 filter after last winters storage. The little bastards chewed all the insulation off the main wiring harness in the fuse box of a brand new truck a few years back also. I put mothballs in the airbox intakes this winter and some said dryer sheets work good also.

This is a good one, watch the mouse at 4:25 where he gets slapped repeatedly. It’s too expensive at about 34.00 bones plus shipping. Anybody got a 3d printer?

I wonder if those seeds would have the same effect of 'walnut shell' blasting they do to remove carbon? :popcorn:
I hate Mice........... I put those poison boxes and traps all over my garage to kill them before they get into my stuff, but they still get in to things...........

Live in rural area with several outbuildings that I store my bikes, tractor, cars, sxs, and other miscellaneous power equipment in. Have had to contend with rodents for years. Poison is out due to other pets that live here.
Tried various methods like moth balls, sonic crap and regularly ran a trap line.
Best I've found is a repellant granule made for gardens. Active ingredients include putrescent Whole Egg Solids -1.12 Pct. , Cloves -0.54 Pct. , Garlic Oil -0.03 Pct.
In other words it stinks. Pull the tank and sprinkle a tad on top of the air filter, battery box and anywhere I can toss a few granules. Marketed to last 60 days outside but seems to work throughout the winter inside.
Still use a few traps but evidence of rodents in the equipment is way down.

I've been fighting them in my garage on the rural property here. Never had one in my house but I couldn't keep them out of the garage in spite of moth balls, rubber snakes, ultrasonic noise emitters, dryer sheets, etc. A few years ago I sold the house in town where we were living and moved here to live full time and had to cram 2 motorcycles in the garage here until the new motorcycle garage could be built. Come Spring when I removed the seat off the R1200RS there was birdseed, corn, shredded paper, twigs, all around the ECM and storage area. Thankfully after vacuuming it all out there was no permanent damage and none in the airbox. Next I took the seat off the V7 II and was relieved that there was no sign of any including in the airbox. But a few weeks later when it came time to move them to the MC garage I started the V7 and a literal shotgun blast of corn, bird seed, etc blew 12' out of the left muffler! How the mouse even climbed up and into the muffler I don't know?
Although motorcycles would never have to stay in the garage again I have a tractor, SxS, and other things mice can get into there so I decided to put a stop to the mice. Sure they could go in anytime I had the garage door up which was often, but they needed a way to go in and out with it closed as well for water, etc. With the passage and garage doors closed there were only two places mice could go in and out, and they were at each bottom corner of the garage door where they could chew the corner of the sweep to go in and out. After eliminating their ability to chew through those corners last year there's not been any sign of mice since. Knocking on wood...

Check out John A's post on the Mousetrap Monday. Looks like a real good trap. I have a couple of cats running around the outside of the house & mongooses. No need for poison or traps. Just have to contend with cat spray. 🤦♂️

In January I bought an 2002 Toyota Tundra from an old guy who bought it new and kept it in a garage. Had 58K miles on it. It ran decent when I drove it 300 miles to get it home. I opened the air box and it was completely packed solid with mouse nest, complete with a mummified mouse. A new air filter element and it runs much better now.
