Title: New additions to the family
Post by: GeorgiaGuzzi on March 07, 2022, 08:07:02 PM
So the past several years we have had to lose some of our old dogs. Heart attack, hip dysplasia, fluid on the lungs. Each was heart wrenching.
However, just like most of us keep getting on our two wheeled death contraptions even after an accident, my wife and I have gotten two new puppies! They are an unplanned mix of Great Pyrenees / Black lab resulting from an affair between my Aunt and Uncles Great Pyrenees and their neighbors black lab.
They came “home” this past Saturday, right when they reached 6 weeks. They’re brother and sister, almost identical. Jasper, the boy, has a small white blaze on his chest and white fur on his rear toes. Jasmine, the girl, is pure black. They’re sweet as they can be. I may have to get a sidecar rig after all!

How big do you think they will get?

How big do you think they will get?

Probably 80-100 pounds. About three feet at the shoulder. The parents are both that size. I’m just finishing up fencing in the front yard, so both front and back yards are fenced in. About an acre total. I’m using 4’ fence and will run one strand of electric at the top so as they grow they learn not to jump over. Then hopefully they won’t try to jump over once they’re full grown.

They are so cute!  Sara couldn’t care less about the bikes on the forum, but I show her every dog picture.  Jasper and Jasmine got two enthusiastic thumbs up. Please keep posting pictures.

Ruddy knew...

The Power Of The Dog
Rudyard Kipling

There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie—
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet’s unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find—it’s your own affair—
But … you’ve given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!).
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone—wherever it goes—for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear.

We’ve sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent.
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we’ve kept ’em, the more do we grieve:
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long—
So why in—Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

Sidecars and dogs just go together!  I am enjoying it.

Really cute pups, we see that mix at the off leash park often. Nice looking dogs but the food bill for two, yikes.

My Scout didn't care for the sidecar, I didn't either.

Very cute. You sir, have your hands full.
We always had German Shepherds. Great dogs, but when I lost the last one I was done. I had retired and Kory was at my side constantly. I've lost people that didn't tear me up as bad as losing that dog. NO MORE I said, I can't do this again. My wife got a Boston Terrier pup and called him Benny. As much as I don't want to like or get attached to Benny my plan isn't working.
