The video is a little grainy, but I'm sure you'll get the gist:

That's one hell of a trailer hitch!

Hi Motor, 3-15-22
I'd say that video goes a long way to giving motorcyclists a bad rep! YIKES!
Be well, stay well,

Hey who put this gap here in the bridge?
-
After I posted my "You can't make this up..." title, I though of several better ones: "A Bridge to nowhere." "A Bridge too far." and my favorite, "I'll cross that Bridge when I come to it."
-
A GA rider that won't be going to TWO soon.
-
Can't imagine why a Gold Wing rider pulling a pop-up trailer would decide to run the barricade arms and continue on. Of course, people try that with trains all the time, and lose. At least he made the correct decision to bail off at the last minute. Avoided a swan dive and an early-morning swim that way!

"I'll drive off that bridge when I come to it."

I'll be charitable and say maybe he didn't see the arms, due to the rain.

Had to bail last second after realizing the bike didn't actually come with wings.
Ah, hindset.
-
He tried to bridge the gap.

Just another idiot vying for a Darwin award.
-
Of note is that it appears he didn’t have his helmet buckled on. Might as well not even wear it if that’s his SOP.
-
What do you mean it doesn't have wings? It's a goldwing!
Yeah, that's quite a hitch! If I owned the company, I'd be trying to buy the rights to that picture!!
The helmet was about useless if it feel off so easily.

There used to be a couple bridges around here that had that steel grating surface on them. They always spooked me out, if dry they made the bike wander all over, if wet you lost most traction in addition to the wandering. I wonder if that played any part in that mess?
-
From my experience it seems a simple matter of not paying attention to the arm across the road. Just like in our town here: Every year several people run across the train tracks, either on foot on in a car, and get hit by an oncoming train...The cross guards down, flashing lights, bells ringing very loudly, train blaring its horn...But they still try to beat the train...Same with this idiot: I can beat it across...Oh I guess not, jump!

"A Bridge to nowhere."
That one is taken..

If repairable, I hope he keeps the bike and renames it Icarus.

If you do a search for Daytona Main Street Drawbridge, you'll find that there have been several incidents where cars crash through the barrier arm and literally fly over the gap as the bridge is in motion
One video description said the windshield of the vehicle was smashed! Fleeing from a crime? Who knows why. Main Street is the only drawbridge left in Daytona Beach, all the others have been replaced over the years with high causeways.

A Goldwing is a bit of a barge after all. It's just trying to reconnect to it's natural environment.
