Title: new Gilardoni with pits in bore
Post by: ray bear on March 18, 2022, 06:23:57 PM
purchased  these cylinders two years ago and never unwrapped them till today and installed piston when I noticed pitting in one cylinder, think there gone past a returning date so will have to live with it , no high spots , all I can do is run it if there's an issue hope I can purchase 1 only cylinder. Any one seen or had this problem or as always am I the only one . thats the top side of the cylinder

Not an issue. I've had cylinders re nikasiled and this is not unusual and has no effect on running. It's just slight porosity in the casting.

Ciao

Thanks Phil , I intend to continue assembly its just annoying that quality control is so slack, it should not create issues . Ray

Looks like it’s at the bottom of the bore. I’d say it’s a non-issue.

years ago, i went to a Triumph factory school on two stroke engines, and the Germany factor instructors want us to send him all barrels with imperfection to send back to Triumph to build race engines.  he said the imperfection held oil so the engines would run cooler.  just a bit of history from 50 plus years ago.Rudy

I had something like that on a set from Millennium. Called to inquire about it and was told not to worry,  it'll work just fine.
After several years there have been no issues.
