Rich’s Vanson thread got me thinking about gear. I love getting new gear but only really like wearing one particular set for a period so everything else hangs ignored. Here is my list in the order of purchase over time
No name black leather jacket - Provincetown purchase in the late 70’s
No name work boots
No name deerskin jacket - got me across the country and back in the 80’s
Timberland work boots
Firstgear textile jacket and pants
Olympia mesh textile jacket and pants
Gaerne riding boots
Schott brown leather jacket
Chippewa work boots
Klim textile jacket and pants - heavy duty interminable break in
Dingo pull on boots - Inexpensive but great fit
Aerostich Transit leather jacket and pants - last year
Redwing Nailseat boots - used eBay purchase
The pattern here is that gear is getting better and I have more free income and prioritize gear over, say, our children or my retirement.

Such misguided priorities, you should be ashamed!!! Welcome to the club

You’re the ultimate test pilot Huzo. Those companies should be paying you.

I’ve only criss crossed Europe, have not turned a wheel in USA or Asia.
Although I’m convinced that the hardest part of riding around the world would be border procedures. If you deduct the oceans from the total distance around the equator, I’d imagine you would be left with 20,000 km of dirt.
I did 25,000 on my 2017 Europe trip.

I have 12 feet of closet space for motorcycle gear. I don’t wear the same shirt everyday, why would I wear the same jacket, helmet, boots, pants, and gloves every day?
I also ride several genres of motorcycles, so gear that is appropriate for one purpose doesn’t work for other purposes.

Jeans and a Harley t-shirt.

Like the guy that came up behind me going down the twisty canyon two days ago. I was going pretty quickly but he was wanting to get by. He wasn't keeping in on the corners but on the straights he was cooking. He was riding an FLH Harley wearing a T shirt and a beanie helmet. I forgot to look to see if he was wearing flip flops.

FWIW:
Saint is having quite a sale. It's been going on for some time now. I bought a pair of their "unbreakable" pants, with armor, and a bomber jacket for my wife to use when working in the vineyard in the winter. The bomber jacket in particular was marked down ridiculously-- they later added some explanatory text about a possible stitching flaw on the liner but we checker hers and its fine. I ordered off their European site and I don't know if the sale is the same for the US site. Here's the link to the European site (you may be redirected):
