Looking for recommendations on de greasing / prepping a piece of heavy equipment for paint touch up. Would like to stay as environmentally friendly as possible. I will manually scrape off the heavy stuff and thought I would spread a tarp covered with wood chips to try and capture all the residual stuff washed off. I have a cold pressure washer rated at 2400 psi. and will likely have to address smaller sections at a time and work my way around. TIA Dave

I think mineral spirits, but here they have neutered that, lacquer thinner or similar solvent.

I second mineral spirits, I can still get it at Menards. Won’t hurt most plastics. Course in all cases solvent first then soap if you are using soap, I had to ‘splain to someone that if you use soap first, the solvent just sits on the soap so don’t take offense at that advise, I’m surprised at what kids don’t know

Simple solution: Simple Green. environmental friendly, have used it in a parts washer@ full strength, great for pressure washing 50/50 mixed.

Found the citrous based degreasers to be fairly effective and the similar garden equipment cleaners, same stuff different can WD40 product. There is also a laundry presoaker degreaser that's pretty effective sold under the preen brand name here although it gets a bit pricey.

I just had my 1st Simple Green experience last week, that stuff is AMAZING!

I like purple power.
I have been using liquid oven cleaner in a hand sprayer. it is awesome. I got a 3 pak from Sam's Club and it works, but it will take the paint off if you let it sit too long. I usually dilute it 50% first to try then go stronger if its really greasy.

I never had any luck with Simple Green. Anytime I've tired it it seems to be afraid of dirt or grease. Purple Power on the hand is cheaper ($4.87 a gallon of concentrate) and makes grease its b!tch. Mix 50/50 or25/75 PP/Water and watch the grease melt away
I'll try purple when I run out of green! :thumb:

For small jobs I’ve used brake cleaner spray or Remington shotgun cleaner. At least it works on oiled surfaces.
