Title: Tonti Frame Bolts?
Post by: Mayor_of_BBQ on May 11, 2022, 11:28:55 AM
Can someone rattle off the specs on the tonti frame bolts from the top of their head? These are for the junction between the downtubes and the lower frame rails? My bike had engine guards installed, and now that they are removed, I'm finding that the bolts are too long. The ones I have are shouldered so I cant just cut them down.

I am guessing socket cap head M12x40mmx 1.25pitch
And I think stainless is fine here with a dot of locktite?

Does that sound right?

Personally, I like the engine guards as I'd rather have those ground down in a crash then the heads.

Crash bars work

I “might” have those bolts, do you need a couple?

I wouldn't use stainless, you really need stronger bolts. The V7 Sport uses M12 x 30 in that location.

You're unlikely to find extra-fine thread stainless bolts anyway, unless perhaps it's some European Aero source.

I dont like the crash bars, I wont be putting them back on, I already cut them up for another use

The bolts I have are 1.25mm pitch, but I'm not opposed to 1.75, I would just need the nuts too in that case.

I'm surprised 30mm is long enough, but I will try to find those...  ACE only carries up to m10 in socket cap head..  I called Fastenall and they have them in coarse (1.75 pitch) but you have to buy a bag of 25

Well I ordered 12.9 black socket cap head bolts and grade 10 yellow zinc nuts in M12x 30&40mm in 1.5 pitch from BelMetric

I think that is going to work?

Hey Chad. I’ve found that the black finished fine thread bolts from the hardware store rust pretty quickly. It looks like Harpers has the Guzzi ones, which might or might not be better.

The part number 98613630  is from the CX100 fiche:

www.boltdepot.com is your friend. No minimum order, wide selection of sizes and grades.

Same with Belmetric.

The last two digits of the part number denote the length in millimeters.

Ben

Thanks Ben, I have noticed the same thing, thats why I was hoping for stainless. Will see how it goes. Might give them a quick blast of paint after they are in place in the recessed well.  NCDMV inspector is coming tomorrow to 'verify the vin' which is now standard for any vehicle over 35years...  Did you find a number for HT? I sent him a message here, but I dont think he is active on the board anymore.

So... these are no good?

The ones from Harpers are 12.9, rusted in 5 minutes and black looks... not pretty.
Are originals zinc plated?

From what I have seen so far. Original is a zinc or cadmium plating.
