Title: The Swede Turns Japanese
Post by: SmithSwede on May 27, 2022, 08:26:01 PM
Well, I spent my recuperative downtime looking at new motorsickles.  Only one spoke to me.  Then today I got salty enough to venture down to a dealer and purchase something that is not a Guzzi.

Don’t hate me.  It’s a brand new 2019 Kawasaki Z900RS Cafe.  I wanted something subtle and understated, so I chose the lime green version.

I haven’t taken delivery yet or ridden it, but I do now own it.  Hope I’m still welcome, or at least tolerated, at upcoming Guzzi events.

I got one of those last fall. I love it. Sounds great. Handles great. Plenty of power.  Very comfortable and  relatively light - approx 475# wet.

The whole modern 4 cyl thing blah blah blah isn't really for me,,, btbh

I used to own a KZ900 back in the day, and I think that Kawi hit it out of the park with that new RS Cafe bike.

It's far and away the sweetest looking retro model out there and I'm sure the light weight, performance and handling will be off the charts.

Hope you're healing well, and congrats on a very sweet new ride.  :thumb:

I have a friend in Az that got a left over 2018 z900, not the cafe. He says it's the smoothest of all the tons of bikes he's owned and just an incredible bike. Enjoy!

Congrats! That is certainly a great bike. Interested to hear what you think about it over time especially living with a chain.

I started on shaft drive motorcycles back in the '80s with my Yamaha xs1100. Since then I've only had one motorcycle with a chain and that was the Yamaha FZ1. Found myself constantly worried and distracted that it was properly aligned and tensioned and oiled.

Enjoy

Swede...good to hear you're back on 2 wheels.

I went with Big Red's version of the retro genre....The Kawi wasn't on the market when I bought the CB1100.  In every meaningful performance metric the Kawi outdoes the CB except one....I was in the local multi-brand dealership sitting on a copy of your bike when I found out what it cost in batteries to keep that Lime Green paint job lit up like that....that was a deal breaker.

I’ll never sell the Guzzi.  Plan is to do the minor repairs to get it rideable, and then over time do some of the more major work to get it fully roadworthy.  For example, both base cylinder gaskets are leaking.  Needs new front brake rotors.  Guzzi will probably go into back-up mode for day trips in good weather, and the Z900 will be the daily rider.

No plans to sell the Duck.

Wow. Great bike there! I came "this" close to getting one a couple years ago. But with my right leg getting worse and weaker, I decided against it and went for a mid sized bike instead.
Those are awesome! Many happy miles to you! And a quick recovery!

good move SmithSwede!  Great bike!  Enjoy it!

The opinions of others while often interesting and fun, eh, they're just opinions!

Don't remember where it started, but in the old days there was a saying: "When I want your opinion, I'll give it to you!"

Always good for a laugh!

Review on a 2020 Z900 RS by Yammie Noob. Not the same exactly, but basically the same bones. He was impressed by how enjoyable it was to ride.

Love that bike! I almost bought one myself, but couldn't get a test ride. I almost drove to TN to testride the non-cafe one... But something came up and missed the demo day.

As cool as it looked, having never owned a Japanese bike (or a non-Vtwin) I just couldnt pull the trigger without a test ride. There was one on the dealer floor for all of 2019 and I used to stop in and look at it every few weeks... Then XXXXX hit and it disappeared along with all their other inventory

The Kawa Z900 looks great congradulations Smith Swede . Kawasaki have made a nice job of designing a retro bike that you can see the lineage  to the old Z1 with up to date suspension usd forks and mono shock .Like the exhaust system too well done .

What an impish grin there Esquire!  Already booking for a speeding ticket and still have paper plates!  Gotta love it!

Bring it on down to Houston on your next trip so we can get a closer look at this beast!

I honestly thought you'd get a Griso if you were looking for more muscle than the V7!
