Title: For the Fallen
Post by: Bulldog9 on May 30, 2022, 08:37:06 AM
Memorial Day is the day we remember the fallen and those who not only gave their last full measure of devotion, but those who have served but have moved on the gathering at the Fiddlers Green, and their families.

Tonight at 9PM EST I will burn a Stogie and lift a glass of American Whiskey (Bourbon) in memory of and in honor to the fallen, and say a prayer for their families. Guzistas are welcome to join or do something on your own.

Please don't "Thank a Soldier for their Service" today. That's great on Veterans or Armed Services Day, but today is for the fallen. Do be aware that many Vets (including many of the countries represented here on WG) have lost friends (some many) in service to their nation and it can be a day of conflicting emotions.

The best way to honor the American service member for their sacrifice is to be an American citizen worth dying for.

My namesake (Mom's younger brother) was lost in France in 1944, when I was about 1 yr old.

Visited Dad's grave this weekend. He was a tank mechanic/welder in Africa and Europe during WWII and was in the Battle of the Bulge. RIP.

Two things I have been doing for several years now.

If I see someone wearing a veteran's hat, shirt etc. I thank them for their service.

If I see someone in uniform in a restaurant, I tell the waitress to bring me their check, but not to tell them who paid.  If I finish eating before they do, I thank them for their service but never mention paying for their meal.

Same with police officers.
