I found one of these on craigslist and it has been very handy when working on the Roamer. It is 20 inches high and about 40 inches long. It folds flat and weighs very little. I can sit on it and put parts and tools beside me. I think that they are about $90 at Home Depot -- maybe someone needs a gift idea for you. Anyway, I have been surprised by how helpful it has been. The picture was taken from an ad so please ignore the "Project Essentials."

But what's wrong with those little roll around stools that tip over at the worst moments cause a wheel hits a pebble or tool and the ground? I like your idea..........I own one of those tip over devices.

Grolsch beer crate for me.
Has the advantage of having 3 different heights plus you can carry stuff in it :thumb:

Cleaning out my dad's place I kept an old shower stool for garage use. Aluminum with plastic seat, carry handle slot on both ends, very light weight, and adjustable height!

Yup, I like that idea. :thumb:
I've been using what looks like an aluminum saw horse for tall jobs, but the legs stick out front & back, so you end up far away from what you're working on and it takes up a lot of floor space.
I've always got cheap rollable mechanic carts nearby, but the tools and junk always end up on them.
From watching photos of Charlie's work, cheap fold up tables are very handy for disassembling, sorting parts etc.

That the problem adding more flat surfaces is you tend to let them collect stuff. In the tool cabinet all my tools have a home and are put back after each use. Not only does it keep me from losing tools it also keeps things tidy, organized and tool aren't strewn across the garage where i have to go looking for them. I've purposely never put shelves in the garage because all they do is collect junk that you never use. If you give yourself minimal storage space t makes you choose between what is worth keeping and what is not.
That's an interesting observation and theory, re horizontal flat surfaces.
I've got 2 rolling mechanic carts, a large disassembly table (w center drain), 3 rolling tool boxes, tool bench, 2 large fold up tables for parts disassembly/sorting, and 2 bike lifts.
As you allude to, every inch of horizontal surface, has something on it.
HHmmm
I do have a huge, tall rolling tool cabinet in another garage, that I've been putting of doing a reorg.
After digesting your words, I might pitter patter and get at 'er.
Tks for sharing your wisdom and thoughts

Yep, me too.
There’s one under the hose that’ll be seeing the light of day after reading this.
