After digging through every wiring scenario I could think of on why my '81 G5 wouldn't turn with my starter switch, I finally realized the issue is my starter switch itself. How do you get the the throttle itself out of the starter/kill switch electrical housing and how do I get it IN the new???
Or do I have to do separate units?

If your throttle/switch assembly is the "lego" style, there are 2 tiny, slotted screws under the unit that, once removed, will split the unit into halves. You'll need a small 1/8" blade common screwdriver.
That is what I had on my '84 SP 1000, and the switch went bad, as well.
What I did, once it was apart was to take a hack saw and cut off the switch part of the throttle. Then I bought this, or similar to replace starter and kill switch unit:

The throttle part of the unit was not affected.

Ok....that worked in getting apart very well. How did you get the throttle assembly to stay put? Just friction?

The throttle plastic drum just rests in the "cradle" of the bottom shell. Just disconnect the cables first to make it easier to reassemble; a little grease around the throttle would not be a bad idea at this time. Then reinstall the cables after the 2 halves are back together.

Unless you are going the Concourse correct route, you could upgrade the whole thing and use separate units .
The Detomaso era Lego switches did well given how low budget they were built, but starting/ kill switch and throttle are safety and reliability items so with that in mind , here are some new available items for the job. That way you will have a new switch as well as a metal dual throttle

There should be a tiny set screw on the underside that locks the unit to the handlebars.
Unless you are going the Concourse correct route, you could upgrade the whole thing and use separate units .

I ordered that very switch assembly, but I'm doing what centauro saidvabout cutting it apart. It worked!
