Either the author is confused, or I am.
They’re putting the V85TT’s motor into this thing? I thought it was going to be the V7/V9 850’s engine. The valve covers certainly make it appear that way.
And they said the V85X will be pushing the V7 out of the lineup? As in, the motor, or the body/looks? Hopefully not looks, because classic naked standards still sell. I could see the motor potentially, but then why build the V9 motor only for it to last, what, 7-8 years?

How long did the Nuevo Eldorado/Audace (sp) 1400 last?

Sure, 6 years maybe? But wasn’t that just a bored out 1200? So essentially an evolution? The V9 motor came out in ‘16, and the V85 a couple years later. Neither share that many parts with one another, if any. I just find that odd that they create an all-new motor just to stop using it less than 10 years later if the article is accurate.

Another reason I think this is just the V7/V9 motor— It looks to me to be the small block frame. The V85’s frame is trellis-style, and the V85 motor has mounts for such. I doubt the V85TT’s motor can mount to small block frame without some significant modification to one and/or the other. Spy shot from a while back:
