Title: Step-by-step on how to remove V7C fuel tank?
Post by: sstone14 on July 11, 2022, 04:29:49 PM
Hi all,

I want to replace the air filter in my '10 V7C and need to remove the fuel tank to access it, which I've never done before. There are instructions in the service manual, which are useful, but they're written for experienced mechanics, and not the likes of myself, who's learning to wrench on his first bike.

For example, I don't know if the tank has to be empty before removing it. And if so, I don't know how to empty it short of riding it to empty.

I'm just reaching out to ask for step-by-step instructions from the Wild Guzzi gang, whose experience and folk-knowledge I believe will probably be super helpful in guiding me away from any potential pitfalls. It seems like a straightforward job, but I know those are famous last words.

So, how does one remove the fuel tank? What sort of pitfalls should I watch out for in this maintenance project? What do I need to know before I get started?

Thanks, everyone!

Kind regards,

You don't need to remove tank for air filter. It's up front behind RH coil or horn, you open box and slide it out to the right.
Very simple.

Sstone14,

I made a guide for air filter change on the early V7 bikes.

Nice work Joe, I definitely need to  have my filter inspected more often!  :thumb: :thumb:

Those are still the plastic tanks.  The less you have to take it off, the better.  They may swell/distort slightly making it difficult to line back up.

Lol Dave, thanks for the thumbs up.

Cam, 100% on the plastic tanks.  The ethanol swelling is a problem.

Are you positive? The service manual says that you need to remove the tank to access the air filter. Will definitely give what you're saying a shot either way.

Thank you for the input!

OK, let's forget for a moment that Steve was a professional Guzzi tech for many years, are Joe's photos of a V7C air filter change (with the tank still clearly installed) not enough for you?  :boozing:

I've studied the pics, but still came away with no idea how to swap the filter... I guess I'll have to peruse them again

I should have explained:  you have to double-click on each photo individually.  That brings up the text below, that goes w each one.  The text spells the process out.

If you take off your tank it may not go back on!!! Then what will you do? Some are deformed and you don't know till you take it off. Pictures say it all and then some. Way to go Joe!
