Title: 850T Starter (issue when hot)
Post by: cappisj1 on July 19, 2022, 11:48:48 AM
The starter on my T works fine when at normal ambient air temperature but after a couple hours of riding and the starter is full of heat I only get the solenoid click. Next morning it fires right up. Knocking it with a hammer when hot did nothing. I have not opened up many starters. Does it just need cleaned up or should I be looking for something specific to replace or clean.

Thanks.

Likely just needs to be serviced. Here's a tutorial:

Very cheap and easy to rebuild. If you’re really cheap you can even rebuild the solenoid, although they aren’t too bad. I might have a used one laying around if interested pm me.

Not being a bigblock kind of guy, do they have the Startus Interuptus problem?

Later ones can, but the 850-T usually doesn't.
