Title: Anything I can do to increase leg room on V7C?
Post by: sstone14 on July 20, 2022, 10:13:53 AM
I have the OEM seat, but the previous owner shaved it down--I'm not sure exactly how much. Would purchasing another OEM seat and adding a seat cover be my only option for getting an inch or two extra of leg room? I'm 6' exactly and I'm starting to get some knee issues after long rides or riding multiple days in a row.

Thanks.

Try using a seat cushion to see if adding more padding to the seat would help. You can also get Knight Design lowering foot pegs. http://www.knightdesignllc.com/Products/Motorcycle/Moto-Guzzi/Moto-Guzzi-Motorcycle-Menu.html (http://www.knightdesignllc.com/Products/Motorcycle/Moto-Guzzi/Moto-Guzzi-Motorcycle-Menu.html)

Well you're a couple hours away in NYC right?

If you make it down to Medford, NJ or we met in between sometime, you could try the 3" thicker OEM seat I use on the MKIII (it will mount on yours for a test) or you could ride my MKI with the Corbin and the 2" drop Knight Design pegs etc.

Those might give you ideas of what might work or not for you.

Kev comes to the rescue, because my suggestion was just to stand on your pegs while riding, but we all know how poorly MG casts their pegs (don’t take the bait!).

Raise the seat.  Fold towels to get the right amount.  Or try kev m.  Most bikes will accept a 1 inch raise for bars without needing new cables.

I forgot to mention that I added about 1.5" added height to my V7 III saddle and the cover accommodated it without looking lumpy. That did the trick for me and I didn't need lowered pegs.

One thing I noticed when I tried my taller seat on my MkI with the lowered pegs that it made enough difference that the seat was now cutting into my legs. In my case +3" in the seat combined with -2" in the pegs = I would need a more narrow seat as my legs were straightening out too much for the resulting bow.

I assume all in good fun, but if not, just for the record I consider my broken peg an isolated incident. And I will continue to stand on footpegs when I need to stretch my legs  :boozing:

Sarcasm indeed intended. I take my V7 on some gnarly dirt roads from time to time, and in doing such, stand on my Guzzi-branded pegs more than the average bear. Granted, they’re the Stornello/V85TT ones, but before those I just used the stock V7 bits.

Back to the OP, you could also use this as an excuse to include a beaded seat or thick sheepskin if you’ve been considering fashionable accessories that would not only give your rump an air of luxury, but add a centimeter as well. Heck, put a sheepskin on top of an AirHawk on top of one of King of Fleece’s lovely waterproof seat covers over a beaded seat, and your bum cheeks will be singing like angels.
