Title: Sturgis SD.
Post by: rudyr on July 30, 2022, 07:22:10 PM
Only 7 days.  My plane is to leave about 3:00 am  wed.or thur. about 1000 miles. When I ride by myself I can get their y  7:00 pm.  But at almost 80 my take a little longer.  I do like camping @ Chamberlen SD. and only about 4.5 hr. from  Sturgis.  Last took the V 85, this year Harley low rider & sidecar.  Who can say what it will be next.  My be a liquid cool Guzzi. Remember a motorcycle , blue pile and a cold beer, forever young.  It’s not the destination but journey.  You don’t need anyone to take you to the head and hold your hand so just got on the bike and go by yourself. Rudy

I rode to the Black Hills this past June, hoping to ride all the great roads (Like Iron Mountain 16A) without all the traffic...Nope!  It's ether cars or motorcycles, no matter what, the Black Hills is going to be crowded in the summer.

I’m packing the bike and sidecar, just to take a test ride to see how it Handel with the weight.  I couldn’t find my sleeping bag, I found it in my camper.  It’s the toy hauler I told you’ll about a couple months ago that I put the solar cells on, well no 120 volts connect to it, have been running my one little test for about 2 weeks or so . Tv, all the lights and a fan, been running 24-7 everything still running.  My refrigerator is 120 volt or gas.  with it on 120 volt thru my inverter can’t stay up 24-7. I’m pride and happy with my system.  Now for a test ride.Rudy

Been to the Black Hills several times during the rally but had enough of the congestion, the most enjoyable time was in sept after Labor Day very little traffic.

A group of friends and I are heading out there AFTER the event.  We leave on the 22nd to head out, so I probably will not run into you.  Be safe and have fun.

Enjoy the ride Rudy !
Last time I went there, I took my dirt bike and rode the OHV trials all over the black hills.
It was epic, great views, challenging trials, and not another sole out there.  In my opinion, it's the best kept secret of the black hills.
It was during the Sturgis rally, and we went into town one time for about an hour....   too many peeps for me.

We will be taking the dirt bikes this time.  Any "must do" trails you could recommend?

we rented a house at Black Hills Adventure Lodging on  black forest road. If you google it you will see several trails connecting to this area and leading out to Micklson trail, rail  road trail, and many others.  I don't recall the ones i like the most as nothing is marked. I did enjoy a trail that ran along a powerline cut.  fun and technical.   It's been a few years, but at that time, if the road was dirt, you are legal with a OHV. and no sticker required like Colorado.

PS, ride with a buddy, if you crash NOBODY will find you.

I have decidedly to leave tomorrow a little later and go to Wi rally first, then see how it goes.  The ranch and wife ( 1 man operation with my son off working)have kept me pretty busy these last few days.  Haven even packed my bike.  Changed oil in V85 today and was looking at the cans after. One 60/15 other 60/10 it’s bouth AMS oil got from Don in OK city never noticed two different weights.  So I called Don.  He called somebody at Guzzi, said it should be alright so I guess I’m got 12.5/60 oil in the V85.  But it looks like I’m going to run through rain tomorrow so I’m just going to take the Harley and sidecar, first long trip on it.  Wish me luck.  No telling when I will get to Surgis.Rudy

Safe travels Rudy. I hope you can post a couple of pics. I love the idea of big trips but don’t have the inclination anymore. I think I’ll pack a couple of bikes up to Vermont in September and go hunting general stores.

The Nemo campground is one of the nicest I’ve ever experienced and the restaurant has excellent food ,not cheap but plenty  and tasty. You can cool off in the stream running thru it.

Have fun Rudy.  I looked up this Sturgis event since I’d never heard of such a thing before.

Are you entering the frozen T-shirt competition?   :whip2:

Well, we saw Rudy at the Wisconsin rally and he left out late Saturday and headed west toward Sturgis.  He was happy with the way that sidecar rig was handling
