Hello Folks, I am in the process of painting my 76 Convert's gas tank, which has that cap that flips back when you press the button. Is it fairly easy to remove from the tank, without damaging it? The previous painter masked it and left it in place, but removing it would yield a cleaner job.
How is it removed, press out one of the pins? I thought I better ask before picking up a punch and hammer.
thanks,
Rick.

Easy as pie. No tools are needed!
Open the gas cap by pressing the button. Using a small screwdriver and your fingers, rotate the steel plate that captures the two pins upwards. You will then be able to remove the cap by pulling it forward and off.
