I've been working on a 1939 DKW NZ500 - 500 cc vertical twin, 2 stroke. It wasn't their first - the SB500 was produced from 1934 to 1939.

The Scott Flying Squirrel was 600 cc (I'd call that "large") and was also 2 stroke and had liquid cooling.
