Title: Loop frame saddlebags
Post by: NoSprk on September 14, 2022, 05:31:25 PM
so finding a set of bags for the loop has been hard. ive given up on finding hardbags with racks.

i found these on ebay last year. i liked the plain styling and the slant seemed to match the lines with the toolboxes.

the racks were also on ebay. NOS from a yamaha. rear mount was easy, using the grab handle tab. front mount was easy to deal with. a little fabrication for some brackets. the bend seems to work out for clearing the shock. i ended up pulling on each end of the rack a little to stretch them out to line up. about 1.5"

the big deal was attaching the bags to the racks. the bags come with three small tabs at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock.
i gave up after almost 2 hours of trying the included string or zip ties. i ended up going to the hardware store for some mini u-bolts. i had some scrap aluminum and after adjusting the bags over and over got them to the position worked best. scribed a line on either side of the racks which was perfect for the u-bolts. i still need to cut the u-bolts down some more and put cap nuts on.

i think they look even better in person. they are not that big but they give me something to put stuff when running to the store and makes the back a little bigger, hiding my fat ass.

the only downfall of the hard mounted bags is ill have to undo the rear rack bolt and the shock nut to remove them. there is a zipper at the top of the bag so i could leave the "over the fender" support.

Very nice looking loop. I like the color very much. Its amazing to me how the shape of the gas tank changes, when its painted a solid color, with no pin striping.  The bags look good, and match the lines of the bike. Just dont over load them, so they stay off the pipes.
Nice job, on adapting the support brackets, to fit a loop.
