Title: Thinks NOT to do...
Post by: Alfetta on September 19, 2022, 04:13:53 PM
So I changed the back tire on the V7 last weekend, commuted all week without any issue, then a 3 hour ride to Lake of the Ozarks bike fest. and farted around a bit up there... (and yes a spirited launch or two)
When I can out of the restaurant after dinner, I have a flat.
Well crap....

Long and short, is I did this myself, I have put 100 tires on the dirt bikes over the last 30 years and never have any issues, but those come with rim locks, Not so on the Guzzi.
So, the thing NOT to do is the thin film of grease to help the bead ease onto the rim, unless your bike is equipped with rim locks !

I’m not sure I would ever use grease on a rim. Actually I’m sure I wouldn’t. A little dish soap and water is all you need.

Touché.  Sometimes I just wade right in without thinking.

No Mar - who make the tire changer - sells a lube for tire mounting that when dry becomes tacky and keeps the tire in place on the rim,

DON'T buy el cheapo inner tubes.

I normally order the Drag Specialties inner tubes, but this particular size was in short supply, and so I ordered just whatever they had...... and it was cheaper (Guzzi content)

About 1,000 miles after installation - it separated all along the outside circumference.
