This was an interesting experiment on replacing the two breather hoses on an 8v griso. They are common to all the carc bikes and with age become hard and brittle. They commonly crack beneath the clamps and cause leak issues. They don't have a lot of extra length so you can only trim and re clamp them once or twice before they need replacement. Here's where it gets interesting. The oem replacements list for around $49.00 dollars each. They are 21 inches of 3/8 id oil rated hose and are factory formed with flared ends and a sharp radius where they take a U turn from the back of the heads to run forward to behind the steering stem where the condenser box is located. I needed to find an oil rated hose material that could be sharply bent without collapsing and retain the expanded flares required on the ends. After trying some various types of hoses readily available I quickly learned that pvc was the perfect animal. I found a 3/8 ID marine grade pvc hose made by Watts at a local marine supply outlet. I later found it is available at our local Ace hardware for cheaper. GC :laugh: $2.59 per ft. Unlike vulcanized rubber ,PVC can be heat formed and retain it's new shape, And even without shaping it is very resistant to kinking. A good thing in this case. Here's how to roll your own.

The right cylinder hose is flared to 1/2in. ID on both ends
The left cylinder hose is flared to 1/2in ID on the curled end and 5/8in ID on the straight end.
The reason for this is that the spigot on the left side of the condensor box is larger than the one on the right
To start all you need is some hose ,

A homemade mandrel of 5/16 dia. rod,

some needle nosed pliers and a 1/2 in and 5/8 in od something to make the flares. I found a socket and the end of a ratchet extension perfect,

You will also need a heat gun and a container of ice water. To start , cut two 21in long pieces of tubing.

I lube up the mandrel with a little Vasoline and slide the tubing on to the appropriate position , Then heat the curved section until it softens , it will be too hot to touch

Remove while hot and while holding it in shape cool it in the ice water. It helps while doing this step to squeeze the sharp part of the bend on it's sides to prevent kinking .

Now it's just flaring the ends, again heat the end inch and a half and use the pliers to expand the ID , then insert the socket and quench in the ice bath
I do the three 1/2in. end first and then the 5/8 ,

Not brilliant, just cheap :laugh: I had nothing to loose except 100 bucks for two stinkin hoses :violent1:

In the past I've had a need for molded heater hoses for a car or truck. I wonder if this technique would work on that?

With PVC hose it would, With rubber no , once rubber is vulcanized it can't be formed.

One of the purposes of the condenser box is to condense the oil mist and return the oil to the crankcase.
