Title: Exhaust stud cleanup
Post by: Moda253 on October 22, 2022, 06:51:48 PM
Heya all.... Can we take a second to talk about the image below? It is a sad state of affairs. I am wondering what I can do to make this a little more presentable. I mean other than just the general cleaning that needs to happen, but specifically to replace the exhaust studs, and general exhaust cleanup. Is there a place where I can get studs or bolts that will be much moe presentable? What size, length and thread pitch do these take? I'd really like to avoid cross threading at all ya know? So thoughts?....

I used a couple of these in the past, still in service after about 10 years. Use anti seize and torque carefully

You can also use stainless acorn nuts to clean it up some.

New Studs and stainless cap nuts aka Acorn Nuts
You should be able to get the studs at most Auto Parts stores, they also carry the copper crush washers that fit the exhaust flange.

+1 on antiseize for ss anything in aluminum. Go slow and easy on the nut removal.  It may be that you could wire brush the existing studs and run a die over them.  No chance of snapping off a stud.

What Scout 63 recommends. clean up the studs with a wire brush, run a die down them,   install new cap nuts, and you should be good to go.

It’s best to use a thread restoration die, not a threading die which may reduce the diameter. 8x125 iirc
