Title: Nevada side stand springs
Post by: Gustav on November 01, 2022, 02:33:34 PM
Hello. Received new side stand stand springs for my 2007 Nevada, installed them, worked great, for about a month. Back to baling wire. Anybody know what the Sam Hill is going on? Thanks, Paul

As the only East Coast based Nevada owner i can safely say…

Sorry no.

What is happening? Is yours dropping and hitting the cut out switch? Or the springs breaking?

Unfortunately the stand return spring is weak, allowing the stand to “bounce down” while running, cutting out the engine.  There are two fixes; replacing the spring, or bending the factory spring.  A good replacement spring is from Moose Racing.  Their exhaust spring M7712 at 3.3 in (83mm) is usually used. (see Guzziology)  Alternatively, one can take the factory spring and bend a new hook in the end.  This shortens it and adds tension.  Do this by taking it off, heating the end with a torch, and bending.  Don’t let the coils heat up, as this removes their temper.

Keep the stand well lubricated, they tend to sort of ratchet each time you hit a bump until they extend all the way causing hopefully the engine to quit before you turn left and crash.

Big agreement on the lube.  For some reason this is one component that needs it every few weeks.

Thank you one and all. Mainly the side stand will ratchet down. Have realized lubing the stand is important. Think I will get a moose racing spring. However, I have no problem with keeping a length of baling wire wrapped around the luggage rack, bit of a pain and I razzed by the neighbors. Paul
