Title: Gas Tank removal Tool help
Post by: SemperVee on November 06, 2022, 01:06:56 PM

After dealing with my first Norge gas tank removal,  a search brought up this tool for separating gas tank fuel connection.  Any one have one of these than can comment on it's use?   $10.00

I don’t have one, but there is a gadget you can get and I’ve seen one in use.
It is like an oversized set of pliers that have a kind of fork on one jaw and a cup on the other. You open it up and place it over the “quick detach”  fitting, and as you close the jaws, it squeezes the grey plastic ring against the collar, then the whole lot just slides off.
I’ll phone Paul Harris in London, he’s the guy who had it as I recall.
This is vaguely reminiscent of the thing.

Thanks HUZO.   I know there has to be a "user" friendly way that would be a help to anyone who struggles with this kind of fitting as often as we have to do it and avoiding having to chase down parts for breaking it.

It can sometimes be hard to pinch the coupling to release the clips V7 and CARC bikes.
Disconnect the wires to the fuel pump first then try to start the bike, it will typically start and run for a couple of seconds, this uses up the fuel under pressure which takes the pressure off the clips to make it easier to squeeze the fitting and release the clips.

That's the set I have but you only need the green ones
Not the best quality in the world,  but unless you're earning your living using them they'll do the job
Plus they're as cheap as chips on ebay ... which is nice  :thumb:

Thanks for the web jump scout.  Good to know it works.   Between the push this and pull back that at the same time can be hard while trying to be careful is a challenge.

I have always taken this route and never have a problem.
