I can understand a hub motor... but a hubless wheel seems like a gimmick. If it weren't, it would already be more popular on motorcycles and bicycles.

Maybe it’s too expensive to make the hubless wheel.

Two problems as I see it: 1) lots of unsprung weight, and 2) rear tire replacement is not going to be easy.
