Hey all, next on my list is replacing the shocks on my 2000 jackal. Well really the foam dampener has crumbled away to nothing and I figure that just replacing the shocks entirely is probably the easiest route. Or at least I thought that. I can’t seem to locate anything on Harper’s and MG Cycle doesn’t know when they will get the Ikon shocks in again.
Wondering if anyone has thoughts on a suitable alternative?

I put Hagon Nitros on my Jackal. That was after I bought some cheap Icon shocks that were totally unfit for purpose. I thought they were awful and sold them on this forum with that full disclosure as one man's ceiling and all that. Guy who bought them was happy (I think) so what do I know except for the fact that the rear end of the bike was all over the place with them. Ordered from MG with the heavier springs. I should have known better.
The Hagons were made for my weight.
No offense intended to the above seller. Some like them. Ok with me. He asked.

I put good old Progressives on my Cal2 sidecar rig. Reasonably priced built any way you want. I got H-D shocks & changed eyelet size w/their spacers for post.

GT Motocycles have some for around $500 last I checked. AKA Guzzi tech.

I have used Showa "Harley" air shocks on my Calis for years. You can buy them for $50-$100. all day long, and you can replace the oil in them to adjust the damping, add air with a small pump to adjust the pre load. They fit well on a tonti framed bike, and for the money, they are hard to beat. They were used on Harley touring bikes, like the road king, etc. for many years.

Hagons on the Stone now, but I really liked the "big twin" owner takeoff air shocks I had before that. My Hagons are too stiff unless two up with loaded bags which they never see anymore.

Interesting did you need to find bushings for them to fit the eyes?

Back when I had my Jackal the OEM shocks failed early on and I replaced them with Progressive 412s from Harper they were decent and I figured I'd done well.
Years later I bought some YSS shocks (from Guzzitech at the time) and moved the Progressives over to a Sportster. Though the Progressives we're still decent I couldn't believe how much better the YSS's were and I kicked myself for not buying something better years earlier.
My advice is don't be cheap.

Thought about changing springs on the Hagons?

I just made some bushings out of some aluminum flashing material, to take up the extra space between the shock eyes and the bikes mounts.

I do recall buying sportster bushings so they fit better.

Interesting idea. Are they about the same length as the stock ones? The ones on my stone metal are good.. good in as function as made, and not wore out.. but not good for me. Even solo they are under sprung for me [6,3" tall 250lbs] but at the same time over dampened. Just mismatched, and wrong. In my aera you cant swing a cat without hitting 50 HD owners, so Im sure I can fine some take offs. Might give it a try before I look into buying new.
