Title: Convert thrust bearing
Post by: ray bear on January 23, 2023, 04:33:06 PM
Hi all, I think my convert has a seized clutch thrust bearing, when engine running the adjuster nut at the rear of the box is turning and when I engage the clutch it stops turning, so whatever I need to have a look inside and a few months back I saw a thread where some one removed the gear box only and left the converter and housing bolted to engine but I cant find that thread. It seemed like an easy way to get to the clutch if you dont have any need to remove the whole lump. Anyone know who posted that thread.   Thanks Ray

I don’t know who but yes the TC and flywheel stay with the engine when you pull the tranny off.

Thats not what I meant , I believe you can remove just the gearbox only and leave the flwheel, convertor and the convertor housing without upsetting or disconnecting any of the fluid system, Ray

No Im mistaken the gearbox bolts from inside the convertor housing , I remember now the thread I saw was the back was removed from the transmission allowing access to the gears only not the clutch, My mistake  :violent1: :violent1: :violent1:

You can run a convert without a clutch. Rodekyll took his clutch completely out.

There’s a funky Guzzi only lock nut in the clutch basket you might want to have on hand before reassembly…for some reason my brain is thinking it’s a reverse thread. That doesn’t mean it’s true though!
