Title: Le Mans IV / Lario euro indicator lenses
Post by: Bazil on May 04, 2023, 11:54:33 PM
So, I lost my (glued in) front right indicator lens a few weeks back. I do have a spare, which is a bit rough. Can't locate a spare at the moment - they are unobtanium ( although I did find a NOS one last year in Italy)

So, I thought I'd investigate having some made. I can provide my originals to make a mould and have them vacuum cast, with a polished finish, which I'm told will be as good as original. The same mob do 3D printing, but vacuum moulding will give a better result.  The moulds are expensive, but good for 15 uses.

If there is enough interest to get 15 sets made, cost would be around $ 110 AUD each side, plus postage to wherever at cost. If only a dozen sets it's more like $ 125 AUD / side. Beyond that it just gets uneconomical ( if $ 125 is considered economical !)

So are there enough takers with deep pockets interested ? PM me if interested, first come first served. If there's not enough interest I'll just glue my existing lenses in better !

Sorry mods - if you think this belongs in buy / sell, please just shift it.

cheers

Hi Bazil, TLM in the Netherlands have some used ones on E bay at the moment. Not cheap though  :undecided:

Thanks for that Colin - didn't bother looking at TLM as they didn't have any last time I checked. But, at $ 250 AUD, I think I'll let it pass!

No bites from anyone for new repro lenses as yet, so I guess I'll give up that option too.

Cheers

Austin, the kid that used to work for me and is now the Indiana rep of the MGNOC, has mentioned he'd like to get an original so he could print some. Oz is a long way away to be mailing things back and forth, though.

Agree avoiding antipodal shipping would be optimal.
As a LM4 and Lario owner, if Austin, or someone in the States were to produce these, I’d be early to queue up for them.

I'd also be willing to buy a couple spare lenses for my '85 LM4. I have a wrap of electrical tape on each of mine for fear of losing one - functional but not pretty.

Well, that's a couple of potential purchasers ( albeit in the States). Only need another 10 to make it a project, if the postage doesn't cripple it for you.

Or maybe get them made in the States if there's demand? I'm sure we don't have a monopoly in Oz  for manufacturers who could do it.
