Title: So unfair....
Post by: Bulldog9 on May 08, 2023, 12:09:08 PM
Cadre has a beautiful and perfectly setup 1400 Eldorado. Making me drool, and here I am in the sandbox till the end of May.

Someone needs to scoop that beauty up!

Probably for the best though, Id have to sell/trade the 1200 Sport

Still.......

I went to the website and couldn't find it. I wish I had bought one of them instead of my Audace. I think it would have been easier to handle giving me an extra year or two on a 1400.

I bet you could put a small deposit on it to hold it until you get home?

I would be interested in a V9 Eldorado.

I bought it.  Anyone interested in a nicely broken in 2020 V85 with tubeless spoke wheels and brand new tires?

Woah.... Mind blown and interested too.

44 days since selling the Harley and adding it to the bike fund.

Still no new bike purchased!

It has been 4 years since I rode a 1400.  I had forgotten what a hairy chested beast that engine is.  It definitely tries to rip your arms out of their sockets if you aren't judicious with the throttle.  I find the Eldo with its different tire sizes is much easier to maneuver than my memory tells me the California Custom 1400 was.  Even Wifey asked for a ride last night and she never does that.  She felt more comfortable closer to the ground than perched high in the air on the V85.  Also, since it is long and low, the terminal velocity was much more leisurely on our twisty roads than on the V.  I think our top speed was about 45.  It's back to the future for me.

If I recall, the steering head angle on the Eldorado gives it the best handling of the 1400 series. Tire size is a help too. Had I bought an El Dorado rather than the mgx21 I would probably still have it.

Glad one of our member was able to scoop up this beauty. Hope to see it in person at the Kentucky rally or one of the breakfasts.

I also wish I had bought the Eldorado instead of the Audace. I would also probably still have it, the Audace left a bit over a year ago. I considered trading the Audace for a an Eldo the local dealer had. I would have lost my butt but by the time I thought it over the Eldo was gone. There was another at a Yamaha dealer last summer but I had already gotten the Triumph, replacing the Audace. There is a MGX for sale just down the street. I started to lift one of those off the stand a couple of years ago. Nope not even going to do it. That 21" front wheel and the fairing made it much worse than the Audace.

I rushed out to test ride the new Cali 1400 when it was introduced.

It was a great bike and in a lot of ways exactly the type of bike I enjoy.

But as I shopped it against products from other brands I eventually landed back on a Harley.

The Harley was a little smaller in chassis, was just as good or better in braking, less needy in terms of maintenance, had a better bag design, had tons more accessories available for less money, and when I sold it six years later I got exactly $240 less than I had paid for it NEW.

I would kill for a real Eldo/Cali descendant. An Eldorized V9 would be super cool - but something between a V9 and Cali 1400 would be awesome. Ironically something V100ish in terms of engine size would be just right. Chassis wise something slightly bigger than a smallblock without being a whale would be awesome. I don't really dig the idea of the V100 motor though so that's not it.

I don't expect to actually get that kinda bike, but it would be cool, or ideal, or my dream bike.

Till then, guess I'll keep enjoying my smallblocks.

I've wished for a bike like that from MG for quite some time. I went with the Triumph. Interestingly my Audace had far better brakes than my previous Harleys.

I don't remember what year your Harley was - but my 2016 Police bike with the electronically linked Brembos was AMAZING. Like similar feel/grip to the triple Brembos on our Monster. If you start braking above 35 mph it would link front and rear and I could one finger haul it down from 80+ like I'd thrown out an anchor. If you start braking below 35 mph it would keep the front or rear isolated applying only what you preferred (pedal and/or lever) the way you preferred.

The current models might even be better still.

I love a good Harley too and have had 2.  1200 Sporty and 2006 Wideglide.  Both were totally reliable and fun to ride.  I had been thinking about a used Sporty to go with the V85, but never made it happen.  Partly, I have had multiple bikes in the past and now just prefer one bike at a time.  For now, this covers the bases. On the Eldo, my touring will just be at a more sedate speed with more breaks along the way.
Unless I am dead, it should be at the KY rally and the Zanesville, Ohio rally.

I know the feeling, I saw that the day after I decided I was going to hang on to the Centauro.

I have you to thank, Bulldog.  I don't usually check Facebook.  It would not have lasted long.  I dropped off the V85 on Thursday and took the Eldo home on a dealer tag.  Just got back from finalizing the paperwork and got my T-tag.
They make the buying process fun at Cadre.  No pressure at all.  This hobby is all about fun, so this is how it should be.  I don't care that I traded a newer bike for an older bike and have done that a few times over the years.
