I couldn’t quite get the sparks coming off his elbow….
There are metallic components in the elbow pads, and I think also in the kneepads. Might be aluminum; not sure. Anyone who has not already done so should make a point of seeing the Sunday race. It’s one of the best I remember. Sparks flying from an elbow pad are a part of a big event during the race.

To the point of a GP racer sliding the front end and getting away with it, it happens all the time. Mostly less dramatic than shown in your posted photos.
It's really deceptive watching these competitors at this level. A lot of psychics at work too.
Basically, when up to speed they are sliding all the time, both ends.
It's what made Kenny Roberts, and other dirt trackers, so competitive in their era.
They were comfortable at speed with the bike moving around under them.
Current technology and rider training has pushed the envelope far beyond that.
I don't know if Marquez originated the elbow down front end slide/save but he pretty much perfected it.
To stay competitive other have to follow.
Huge talent and training coupled with a massive amount of engineering, technology and teamwork.

Gary McCoy was a big proponent of the two wheel slide. Maybe one of the most extreme.

Unfortunately doing the front slide/elbow save slows you down and the guy behind you nails you..with 2-3-4 riders tangled up in the mess, and down they all go!
