What the good and bad about the 2014 California?
I saw one at a good price is it worth selling my 20 year old 04 EV? To purchase a 10 year old California?

Big, heavy, long, nice motorcycle.
If you don't mind the weight and spending the money, you'll have a better motorcycle.
There was an issue with the flex pipe in the exhaust. Someone else will have to chime in with other issues

I had two TPS sensors go bad on my 2015 the first 12k miles. That being said there’s plenty of the 2014/15 that didn’t have that issue with a lot of miles logged.
Other than that, it’s a fast, comfortable mile munching beast that was a pleasure to ride.
It is heavy but has a fairly low center of gravity. I’m not a big guy and never felt the weigh was an issue. My thoughts on motorcycle weight is they don’t weigh much of anything if you don’t let them get off balance.
Good luck with your decision.

The flex pipes will be fine if they aren't stretched. If undoing the muffler brackets don't let the mufflers drop down. One of them has to be moved to change the rear tire. On my Audace I just undid the right one, let it down a couple of inches and supported it with a block. Mine was a '16, it was a mile muncher and fun to ride. There were fueling issues below 3,000 rpm. A Booster Plug helped but still had issues. Beetle didn't have a map at the time but he does now which should take care of the issues. The engine in mine was replaced at 500 miles so that could have been the problem with the dealer that did the work. I think the California may be better sorted from what I have seen with others.

Yes, and no. Keep the EV, if you can.... and get the 1400, if you can.

I test rode one and would consider giving up my Norge for one. Reminded me of a 3/4 size Victory Cross Country - It was that good.

I miss my Audace but due to my advanced age and being pretty light I had to move on to a more manageable bike. There is a really nice California for sale in Vancouver.

They're totally different bikes. The 1400 is my go-to long distance machine. In terms of comfort and power, it delivers in spades. My plan was to sell my EV, but I discovered that it made a much better around-town bike than the 1400, so it stays.

it was a dang nice platform. I came close to buying one on a couple of occasions. I wish they'd done more a standard tourer of it like an RT.
