The garage door is not open most of the time, but enough of the time I suppose. No eggs.

Lol Chris, maybe that little birdie was trying to tell you something 🤔

That's pretty cool(ish). Unless you wanted to use that helmet again.
I usually get squirrels or such in my shop during the off season.

At least someone uses it. That very thing happened to me a while back, way back I guess. Since then made sure flat side down on helmet, unless being used shortly. Even the old ones I don't use.

I had to install a cabinet with doors in my garage. The wrens get in there and start building if I leave the door open more than a few minutes, it seems! I've cleaned out more than a few bird nests from our helmets.

Obligatory "bird brain" post!!!!!!

Any idea on what kind of bird?
-
No eggs yet maybe, but depending on the species, that's either a recently mated couple's starter home, or something a bachelor built hoping to attract a mate. It worked for me, I just kept piling up sticks until a woman came over and inquired as to what I was doing.

I hung blue Jean's out on the clothes line one morning then went there in the afternoon to grab them to take into the house and a wren had built a nest in the crotch of one of the pairs of Jean's. Whole thing was packed full of small sticks. I had a very angry wren chewing me a new one as I cleaned out that pair of pants.

I called the bird a wren, but I call pretty much all small birds wrens. This one was dark. After I pulled the helmet off the shelf she came back, very perplexed, a few times. I don’t think she understood my explanations and apologies.
Of the seven or so helmets I have, this is one of two I ever use, but this one hardly ever. I’m going to try and clean it up.

Years ago I took these pictures of a Hummingbird which made a nest on top of a Hummingbird windchime I had hanging on my back patio.

Had that happen in just a couple hours at a campground when I left a helmet hanging on the bike.

Someone told my wife that a plastic snake would keep birds from building nests.

This was one determined bird. That took a lot of thought for that bird brain to come up with nest like this one. Not much head room though.

I leave this one on the shelf above the bench for the last 10yrs, maybe they won't make another one. Never been messed with or had any eggs in it.

The babies better get the takeoff right the first time.
