Sorry for NGC but I have been given a task to find the best decaf for home brewing. Wife's kidneys could be better so Dr. told her to stop caffeine. Thanks guys.
My 5 Guzzies thank you and my wife thanks you.

Nowadays there are many local roasters. They usually have a decaf. That's what I buy. Better than what I can get at the supermarket.

Wife uses PETES kcup in the Keurig coffee maker.
I don’t like caffeine free very much but honestly I can’t really tell the difference in the flavor.

The method of brewing is as important as the coffee. We switched to a percolator several years ago and have not looked back. Now coffee out of to a drip or especially Keurig taste like dirty water.
We also found that we liked store brand coffee made in the percolator as much or better than several of the 3X expensive boutique coffees we were enjoying out of drip machine.
Moka pot works is good too at brewing a bold cup.

I like dark roasts and I like Sumatra beans. Best decaf I have found is Starbucks Dark Roast Sumatra. But that is my taste buds talking.

You mean Peets? That's what my wife and I have been buying for years (though not decaf). Major Dickason's blend is our house standard. It is good for pour-over as well as espresso.

Green tree coffee(dot) com. The dark roast Ethiopian is what I order for my Mom when I order all of my Pour over grinds. Small batch roasted (32 pounds) and is a small business that has multiple tees and other choices.
I no longer live anywhere close so I order online, and when I have shared with some of my co-workers they tell me it is the best coffee they have tasted in their life!

I do miss perk coffee. I have a percolator I got decades ago, but the darn thing is LOUD! I have a stove top one, but my work schedule doesnt really allow me to baby sit it on the stove in the early AM. What do you use? As for the brand coffee. They seem to vary in the perk depending on the grind.
On the decaf subject. I dont drink much, but when I do I dont care for the low buck store brand decafs. Most any other more premium brands are fine.

If decaf is a bridge too far try a 50/50 blend of decaf and the good stuff. We've been doing this for a while, as well as dropping back to a single shot handle, and we haven't felt any ill effects. At least of one the local roasters is selling a 50/50 blend now.

Check out The Kalamazoo Coffee Company. I haven’t had any decaf from them, but have had several other blends. All were very good.
We buy the beans and grind them as needed.

Giant Grocery store brand coffee and a Presto 12 cup percolator. Yes it is a bit noisy but I can hear when it’s done. Actually have come to welcome the sound it’s like morning music.

Never drank a cup of coffee in my life.
BUT, it all smells so good :thumb:

Back in the day my parent's one made a nice pleasing glug glug sound... mine makes a click sound that is in no way pleasing. Ill have to shop for a different brand one.

Been going 1/2 caf and decaf for a while now. Currently using an Aeropress and Kicking Horse decaf which is a darker roast than most but still smooth. I can tell a difference between Swiss water processed and others which chemically remove the caffeine.

I don't like many decaf's, but my local roaster has a good one that I can vouch for:

Two thumbs up on the Aeropress! Well, if I had two thumbs.........make s ridiculously good coffee, easy and hardly anything to clean. It replaced my $300 Technivorm when it broke and my French press, which is a pain to clean and the Aeropress makes better coffee.

I’m one who can’t tell the difference between regular and decaf. For me the key is small containers of fresh roasted beans ground just before brewing.

Agreed. Fresh ground can make average coffee taste good. What matters for decaf is 1) grind your own beans and 2) be sure to get Swiss water processed. If it doesn't say that on the label it's chemically processed by soaking beans in methylene chloride or ethyl acetate, both of which are suspected to be carcinogenic in larger doses. Also makes the coffee bitter and/or sour tasting. Swiss water is more expensive which is why decaf usually tastes lousy when you buy a cup somewhere.

I've just been admitted into the forum and my first post is about coffee! I switched to decaf 15 years ago. I was a two pot a day drinker of regular, but never noticed a difference when I switched. I like darker, stronger coffees and really like Just Decaf from Black Rifle Coffee Company.
Thanks,
Ted

methylene chloride was an awesome paint stripper and gasket remover. Also worked a treat at de-carboning heads and piston domes.
