Yesterday was Italian Republic Day. While the holiday doesn't have the same feel as the 4th of July, we all can agree that it's good that the Italians re-invented their motorcycle industry after the horror of WW2.

Until the time I first visited Milan back in 2016 I had no idea Italy as we know it today, did not become a unified country until 1871. Though ‘Italians’ have lived on the peninsula for millennia, the region was a mix of principality’s, city states or fractured into regions of control by other European kingdoms. Canada, which I consider a very new country is older, 1867. That makes the USA a much older country than Italy, maybe we should refer to the USA as ‘the old country’.

So better late than never, I googled this up on Wiki and it says it's all about the post WWII referendum in 1946 that abolished the monarchy and created the republic. Then I scroll to the bottom and there's lots of pictures of the celebrations and parades. Here's one of the Italian national police riding...BMWs. Inconceviebliocco!

Canuck,
So the USA is older than Italy? And Canada is even older than that?
FrozenGoose,
If the Italian police are riding BMW, either it's a sign of the apocalypse or of EU trade agreements (are they the same?).

I think the sign of the apocalypse has been around for a while now...

Canada is older than Italy and the USA is older than Canada. Seems odd doesn’t it.
