I would have thought that all the little mice would be out in the fields - being that it's warm weather and all that.
But no, they have to hang out HERE and chew the spark plug wires off of my riding lawnmower.
Well, me and Victor are working on the mouse problem !

Better there than under the seat of your bike.

I have a constant battle with mice here. There is an entertaining utube channel that I like for different traps, Mousetrap Mondays.

This one is about a trap from 1894 that he found. I have one that operates on a similar principle, except it is made out of metal . It was for a feed mill and usually has a carcass in it. The best one I have is a five gallon pail with a ramp to a cover with a trap door. I put snacks in the pail so they die quickly. Some put water or diesel fuel in the pail . When I was a kid we would catch field mice for pets but mom wouldn’t stand for that so I just helped catch them. We would find their runs in the field and be able to corner them and grab them. The most fun is shooting rats at a dump at night but it’s too civilized around here for that pastime

It's strangely satisfying to be laying awake at night and hear SNAP... rattle... rattle... rattle...

My barn cats do their job. They are not allowed in the tack room so my wife has sticky traps in there.

Yes, here in northern AZ, we have little "Pack Rats" that get in the garage, so occasionally you have set the snap-traps out and take care of business... I hate to have to do this, but they can be very destructive...

We had a cat that would watch the mice eat her food and I would have to kill the mouse. Now we have two cats that kill almost anything that moves, which is good and bad especially when it comes to birds.

I HATE mice and rats!!!
Destructive little beasts. I've trapped 'em, beaten 'em to death,
drowned 'em, and even shot 'em.
I do not like them Sam-I-Am......
Those Victor snap traps are probably the best for most folks, though.
And the traps can be reused - the mice absolutely don't mind. Empty 'em,
rebait 'em, and set 'em up again. Raisins tied to or smushed in the bait bar
work well, but peanut butter is easier.
I had an infestation in the walls and attic of my house that drove
me batty for over a year. Then I discovered I had bats in the attic
and wall as well, which took another year to eliminate.
A coworker had rodents take up residence in her car. this past year. They did enough damage
to upholstery and electronics that the insurance company finally totalled the
machine. It was only 2 years old, I think.
Nasty little beasts.....

I don't much care for em either. I'm pretty much a "every critter has to make a living somehow" kind of guy..but.. when a mouse climbs the wing strut of your antique airplane, eats a hole in the fabric, and starts using rib stitch cord for a nest.. that means war.

I much more prefer the sporting approach

High Frequency Rat annoyers seem to work, it keeps them away from the vehicles. Flashing lights work and one of my customers uses the flicker flame lights to keep the rats away.

Got another one !
And, one escapee.

Had a rat problem in a rental unit, tenant said the electric stove wasn’t working so I pulled the stove and realized there was some water on the floor near the receptacle. Opened the wall where the water was seeping and discovered that the rats had eaten the PVC water lines. Not enough to entirely break the line but enough to seep water. Fixed the line and raised the receptacle off the floor which was installed by some unknown idiot of original renovation and declared war on the rats. Rat poison in the attic along with black boxes outside the house and problem solved.

My mom grew up on a farm near Lititz, PA where those traps are made. She said that people that worked there called it working at the Trappy. I found that cotton works as bait quite well because the mice want it for their nests when they have plenty of food. What are you using for bait? That last one was a perfect neck snap, like the other ones
-
Open traps I always use peanut butter, cheap(guzzi) and always available.
-
Cotton, eh?
I never heard of using that as bait, but it makes sense.
Another weapon in the eternal war against the rodentia.......

*** WARNING *** THREAD DRIFT
We (just last year) were performing routine maintenance on the Wife's car.
The airbox was full of acorns. There were several squirrels watching us.

I hired pros. They clean up afterwards, too.

I got one of those 5 gallon bucket traps a few years ago. It's a fun way to waste the little buggers. OR you can release them live on neighbor's property https://www.google.com/search?q=youtube+water+bucket+mouse+trap&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS791US791&oq=youtube+bucket+mouse+trap&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0i22i30l4j0i390i650l3

Half a century ago, while still in high school,a few of us would go out Friday night before the dance and shoot rats at the dump
with our pellet rifles . The smart ones always ran towards our feet ! Peter

I set up a 5 gal home depot bucket with a plastic board balanced on a rod holding a dab peanut butter over 4 inches of water so that I can keep killing even as I don't check the pail daily.

My favorite mouse traps are Chickens.

I just saw this video https://youtu.be/Yj-0l9KpUaw
He shows how to use mice to kill ticks , it’s diabolical so I’m going to try it
