Title: Visibility
Post by: Zenermaniac on June 25, 2023, 11:06:53 AM
We can do all we can to be visible from extra lights to fluorescent clothing but sometimes it just seems all futile. Idiots can’t even see a lit up fire truck.
This happened yesterday. Be safe out there - it’s madness.

Yep, but if we add two LED running lights to the front of our motorcycle, we somehow thing we are better seen.

It's risk management.

 Nothing is 100%.

Extra lights, high visibility clothing, reflective [stuff] will lessen the risk.

Is there a point to what you wrote?  Is it that we shouldn’t bother adding lighting, or is it that we shouldn’t assume we are better seen?

Wondering because like Kevin wrote, reducing risk is the aim when making oneself more visible.

You can add all the lighting you like to the bike but don't get lulled into a false sense of security that it will make you more visible especially to the distracted driver. Case in point is the picture provided. If a driver hit a fire engine with lights flashing I'm not sure 2 LED on the front of a motorcycle are going to do any better at grabbing the distracted drivers attention.  Maybe if you add a loud exhaust that will work Loud pipes and bright light, save lives :thumb:

I like Kevin The Great's flashy brake light mod #27.  And a couple of DOT side marker lights (from the local truck stop) mounted in the license plate area.

And then there is the horn modification.  Turn on sound.

The point is exasperation with the idiocy of drivers in general. I will still do what I can to be seen. Some years ago my son who’s a paramedic was responding to a call with all lights flashing and siren blaring had a driver pull in front of him and they tried to blame him for the damage. Another idiot. We’re surrounded by idiots, I tell ya.
