Title: What bike is this
Post by: tris on June 29, 2023, 05:14:31 PM
I've been clearing my dads house and found this photo of my paternal Grandmother
I never knew that she rode, and on the back it says that she had 4 layers of clothes on!!

Question is what's the bike  but I'd assume that it's something British

Cheers

Tris

Looks like a 1934 Montgomery Deluxe 350 to me. Very rare today.

Thanks Z

I've never heard of Montgomery  :huh
I was expecting Triumph/BSA/Matchless/etc.

Thanks again Z

I think that a trip to the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham might be in order  - they might have one

The lower frame doesnt look correct for a montgomery , the bike shown has a twin tube lower frame where as the montgomery has a stressed member using engine as frame , I am just guessing, Im normally always wrong so my wife keeps telling me. Ray

My first guess was a Norton single from the period (??) Never heard of a Montgomery...(??)  Could be, I guess...(??)

Also, you should be able to somewhere research and identify that front plate:  HMV416

The Montgomery shown has an angled motor, the photo appears to have the motor vertical.

I have no idea what it is, my first thought looking at the chaincase was Velocette. Changed my mind, toolbox in the wrong place, in fact, the oonly bikes I can find with the toolbox where it is , is the Norton.

If I'm lucky the NMM will have a register of number plates or a knowledgeable bloke hanging around 😀

I shall report back once I get there

Thanks for all the ideas

BSA Silver Star looks really close, but still isn't it.
