Two months
1600 miles
Typical mileage 52 MPG
MPG range 48-54
Couple tanks ~65 MPG cruising ~45 MPH
Changed oil at 512 miles and 980 miles (Castrol Edge 10W60)
Extremely pleased with M/C #22 (expected to be last at age 76)
Only "issue" is finding neutral is a challenge. May improve after gearbox lubricant is changed
~5000 RPMs on tach cruising at indicated 84 MPH, 6th gear
~6750 RPMs on tach at indicated 114 MPH (pulling a grade at ~4800 feet elevation)
Treated well at Motopia (formerly Triumph of Albuquerque)
Ample room under seat over rear fender for tool pouch

On past smallblocks neutral was usually an issue of too much slack at clutch cable which prevents the clutch from fully disengaging. Just a hair less slack usually does the trick (a little less than spec).
-
FWIW, the III calls for 2MM. Any more and mine won't find neutral. I use a 80 thousands drill bit. My V85 doesn't seem to be fussy.
-
Thanks, Kevin and Vagrant
The V7-850 manual specs 2 mm free-play/slack and it was at least double.
Took it around the block, pulled into the garage and up-shifted from first to neutral no issue

Nice! New Mexico provides some nice riding and even better backdrop for photos.

I honestly didn't recall the factory spec was 2mm - for some reason I thought it was 2-3 or something like that and I was always setting it up on the short side. I just remember so many demo bikes or new bikes coming with it set too loose.
So maybe it's more a case of too many being set too far out of spec and the spec is fine. I'll have to try and reset that in my brain because it seems to still come up all the time.

Hey Sportsterdoc, good to see you here!
What are those side cases? Did they come with the bike?
-
The cases are not Guzzi OEM.
-
That's a sharp looking bike, my favorite new 850 yet. Just wish they would stop calling it a V7.

Hey Kiowa Eagle, I remember you form the CB1100 forum. You joined a few months before eye issues (now in remission) forced the sale of my CB1100 in Sep 2018. 12,500 happy miles in 10 months.
The side cases are Apache 1800 from Harbor Freight.
I used Pelican cases on my 2016 V7II, which would be a bit larger, 4X expensive and not likely to clear the upswept Arrow exhausts on the Special Edition.
Two cases plus 6061 aluminum from McMaster-Carr and a couple 8 mm bolts.
Below was my V7II

I posted other mounting photos, but this shows the 1/4" x 2 1/4" bars mounted to the frame.
I bolt is factory, holding rear fender ("mud flap"} to frame.
Hole for second bolt is already there.

I have 4200 kms (2609 miles) on mine now (2022 V7 850 Special), done quite a bit of riding in the wet and have recently experienced the dead starter button issue (press the button nothing happens). So far the cure seems to squeeze the nozzle of a WD 40 spray can into the gap under the switch and spray till WD 40 is running out of the bottom of the switch.
I did contact the Moto Guzzi dealer who said they would replace the switch gear, but with a new identical item, so Moto Guzzi dont appear to have an upgraded button mechanism to cure this fault?

Really great looking bike!

I’ve got 2 fairly recent small blocks a 16V7II & a 21V7 Centanario . As for finding neutral , as the miles accumulate neutral becomes easier to find . My V7II @ 24k Mi. Now shifts like a Japanese transmission. The V7/850 @ 15k is much better & seems. Better with each 1000 Mi.
I’m militant on clutch adjustment & usually change transmission fluid & check filter @ 8k Mi. Intervals. Your results may vary!

They look good! Thanks for sharing. BTW I envy your riding in NM. It's my favorite place in the world but I've never been able to ride there. Hopefully some day soon.

Over 3,000 miles in 4 months.
No issues and neutral getting easier to find.
Intended to go to Taos next week, but rain is back in the forecast.
Maybe 18-19 Sep, either one day or spend the night in Taos.
Traveling light with medium weight Jacket in tool type bag on rear seat and rain jacket in right side-case.

Glad you're enjoying...
Still enamored by mine.

Very glad that former Triumph of Albuquerque, now Motopia, added Moto Guzzi just in time for me to be their first goose client.

Thanks. I forgot I turned mine off to be able to post a review. Your post reminded me to turn it back on.
I changed fluid on gearbox (and trans). Now I catch neutral 9 of 10 times on first try.
On my V7II, the gearbox fluid was reduced from 500 cc to 450 cc to keep it from blowing out
500 cc is fine on the V7-850.
No issues on yesterday's 382 mile run to Taos via mountain roads and back.

Just a ? here, but the v85 uses 700cc so I would think the v7-850 would too.

5,000 miles in < 7 months.
I am very pleased to have the Special Edition with bar end mirrors and Arrow Exhausts.
Amazing difference from 744cc to 853cc!
Planning to retire from motorcycling end of next summer, partly because I am quickly running out of areas to explore and I am very happy to being able to ride for 60+ years.
Only one semi-close call: I should have taken the inside of two left turn lanes in Los Lunas, but the truck starting in the left and going to the right was avoidable.
Another trip to Soda Springs (highway 4 is a good ride) and maybe visit family in Surprise Arizona, via highway 60 to Payson (882 mile round trip)
The 5.5+ gallon fuel tank and shaft drive are so conducive to distances.
Jesse Beck at Motopia in Albuquerque (formerly Triumph of Albuquerque) said he would buy it back, when the time comes. But seeing New Mexico TV report the massive Motopia burglary ($50K of accessories) this week, causes concern for their survival.
Low to mid fifties this coming week!!
I do miss riding to Pahranagant Lakes in Nevada and being able to go from 2,000 feet elevation In Las Vegas to 8,500 feet on Mt Charleston in only ~30 miles.

Thanks, Kevin.
I strive to be a good "lert" as my wife admonishes each time I leave home.
with over 100,000 miles on my last 14 bikes (did not track the previous), I only had one crash.
Hopefully I can maintain that record for another ~11 months over a few thousand miles.
The V7-850 has been the almost perfect final bike.
