Title: For Those That Like Old Harleys

I've had the 1969 FLH on the lift for the last couple of weeks.  The plan was just for a new rear tire, but ended up replacing the chain and sprockets which is a bit of a job.  She's ready to roll again.  Of all my bikes this is my sentimental favorite.

That’s really gorgeous, Dave.  I’ve always wanted to get a generator Shovelhead (preferably 1967, just because), even more so after all the happy miles on our 1974 FLH.

Beautiful Dave. I have a 73 FLH (not as nice as yours ) but still one of my all time favorites!!!

At age 12, my very first ride on the back of a motorcycle was on a classic HD Shovelhead, just like this! :thumb:

It belonged to a OTR truck driver friend of my Uncle Remo back in Ridgefield, CT.  I remembered he kinda looked like Clark Gable.  :wink:

Anyway, that experience / ride started it all for me... :cool: :boozing:

That's a beauty.  I'd love to hear it run.  Nothing idles like a Shovel.

  Reminds me of my old 73 Shovel with the rock hard GoodYear tires and 50 weight oil and cork oil filter.. Unable to ride faster than 58 mph without losing my fillings!

My first Guzzi,the Eldorado,had a set of those Harley bags,they were cheap and widely available in the 70s.I recall them recommended in the first Tips ForGuzzis book.

Beautiful bike Dave! First time I rode a HD was 1998, buddy of mine had two new Road Kings in his garage (back then guys bought them for resale at a profit) and offered to let me ride one for the day in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Up till then I was exclusively a sport bike rider... HDs where the subject of jokes (actually I owned a Norton chopper in college, but I digress). Once I got acclimated to the floorboards and the flow of the bike, it was all smiles. I had a blast and ended up buying the one was riding at the end of the day. I replaced it with a new 2001 RK Classic which has run flawlessly for the last 26K miles. These are wonderful bikes for those who have never ridden one. I've done a number of cross-country tours on Electra Glides, no disappointments. I'll never sell my RK Classic.

I had a 73 or 74 "Electragide in Blue" (can't remember which year) that the previous owner of had replaced both primary and secondary chains with belt drives through midnight supply sources at his job as a Baltimore City police mechanic.  The secondary drive belt was a great conversion but the primary belt set-up on that bike (probably others too) was notoriously hard to get perfectly aligned & misaligned ones often broke with no warning when the primary belt wasn't set up just right.  That bike left me stranded on the DC beltway at rush hour, back in the days when cell phones were almost non-existent.  Took almost 2 hours before the traffic broke enough for me to dash across the 5 lanes of traffic in order to walk to a pay phone about 1/2 mile away so I could call a tow truck.  The bike was fun to ride leisurely but dragged stuff on any curvy road when being ridden spiritedly, and was almost as slow as molasses.  35 mpg on a good day, when driven gently.  Saw another nearly identical one at a shop in central NC on a weekend ride down there & REALLY wanted to buy it so I'd have a matching set, but i had no room in the garage.  It was pre-Ebay days & I looked for a couple of years for a passenger's cushion like the one on your bike, without success.  Still, I wish I still had it!   :laugh:

I'd ride that old H-D until I couldn't ride anymore.
