Title: Seat/Battery Shenanigans...
Post by: SLDMRossi on July 31, 2023, 07:30:38 PM
Back in the day we used to have to worry about seat pans bottoming out and shorting across the battery if it was sitting too high. Well, nothin's changed...

Decided to deal with my recently acquired California Black Eagle today to figure out why the seat seemed to be so screwed up. It was extremely hard to latch, and the key release proved almost useless.

Well, as you might expect I attacked the mechanism. Then, I moved on the seat fastenings. After working through all that it was the usual. The wrong Battery was installed somewhere along the way...and the replacement is a touch too tall. Of course, the original hold down is long gone, too.

So a new Battery is on order, as is a replacement hold down.

So it goes with buying low mileage, original, untouched used motorcycles...

I've had to adjust lots of those Cali seat latches, a little bending & adjusting the bracket paid off. Also have junked the EVAP box & installed a 30ah, 32, 34ah batt like it should have.

On the T-3 I have a rubber cover over the battery top just in case.

Some of the lawnmower batts would short right out on closing those seats. Old inner tubes work well for flaps.

All fixed...back to OE spec. Now: if only the Battery providers would start to include bolts that are long enough to grab the captured nuts when they are lying at their low position!

This ain't rocket science...

Yep…
How many times have you had to fold up a piece of paper to wedge under the nut ?
Nothing worse than having to feel around for your nuts… :embarrassed:
