Background: 2014 California custom. I’m the only owner since I bought it new in 2016. Right around 11000 trouble free miles. I keep up on the maintenance. So I noticed something different today while riding home from work. I was feeling a lot of heat off the motor at my calves. I realize it’s summer but this was a lot heat and it was intermittent is the only way to describe it. It came and went and didn’t seem to matter whether I was cruising along on back roads or stop and go traffic. And todays weather was fairly mild in my part of the country. This was was almost like in an old car with a bad thermostat where it would need to get super hot before opening. Bike ran fine otherwise, nothing sounded wrong and it didn’t show any lights. My first thought is oil pressure sensor or maybe the thermal switch at the front of the motor? When I got home I left it idling to check if the fan on back of the radiator was running. It was not. I went down to the garage a few hours later to check the oil level thinking that might be an issue and the crankcase was still warm several hours later, also not really normal in my experience. Normally the big blocks run cool, the radiator with a fan might even be overkill. Before I start getting into troubleshooting it I thought I would ask if anyone had a similar experience and what the fix was. I do seem to remember some posts about the sensor and the connection was an issue. Also ran fine last week when ambient temps were in the mid nineties, so something changed. And has anyone added an oil pressure gauge.

The fan should come on at 125C, make sure it works. I have seen some threads about the fan not working. may be where the heat is coming from.
