I might ride over to the Virginia rally on 6-8 Oct. sounds like it might be fun…..AND COLD! Lol. Or maybe a few days at Two Wheels of Suches, or a few days at my cabin? Hmmm? Retirement life is swell!

Whichever one you choose sounds like a good time!
I have 3 months before my first opportunity to retire. I would like to go until 65 though, but if someone pisses me off before then I will just retire and pick up some side hustles to help sustain my hobbies.

Good luck with your decision on when to retire. I’ve decided to go to my cabin to fix a couple of things that need attention.

I retired at 62 with zero regrets. Great not to have to live by someone else's schedule.
If your retirement money is right, then the concern is health insurance. I had to work a couple of months for the insurance after 62 for a lung health scare. Finally the specialist said the I would probably die before the asbestos scarring killed me.
And don't miss out on the National Parks pass for old people. Free entrance and half off camping in Forest, COE, and Parks.
We did 50000 miles of living in a rusted dodge caravan , touring the USA over the first 3 years of retirement. Most trips in June and/or September to avoid the worst of the overcrowding in the Parks.

I retired 17 years ago and would recommend it to everyone !
I'd recommend not buying a ranch ... it keeps ya too busy ! Busy gets in the way of those long bike rides ... but it does buy ya a bike every couple of years !!!

Agree on retirement. Although, depending upon how you were raised, it might take a while for your self-esteem to adjust to being "a completely useless member of society." Now that I have become more misanthropic (or perhaps reverted back to my true self?), my self-esteem has returned.
Where, pray tell, in Virginia might the Virginia rally be held?

FYI
41st ANNUAL VIRGINIA MOTO GUZZI RALLY/CAMPOUT
October 6, 7, 8, 2023
This year the Virginia Guzzi Rally will be a simple bring-your-own everything campout, so there is NO RALLY FEE. Location: Willville Motorcycle Campground (http://www.willvillebikecamp.com/), 1510 Jeb Stuart Highway (Route 58), Meadows of Dan, Virginia, 24120. This is just one mile north of the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 178. Willville Motorcycle Campground is a motorcycle-only campground with clean bathrooms, hot showers, coffee around the clock, and a bonfire nearly every night of the week. Meadows of Dan is a nice little village with two gas stations, several places to eat, and several places to shop. If you don’t want to pack your own food, you can buy food in town. The stores are one mile from the campground. CAMPGROUND COST: $15.00 for one person per night, $22.00 two-up on a single motorcycle. Discounts are available if you stay multiple nights. Payment can be made when you arrive: just pay the campground host. If you prefer a motel, there is one motel in Meadows of Dan: https://www.blueridgeparkway.org/members/blue-ridge-motel.

In addition to Nick's information:
Jane's Country Cafe' has been a popular breakfast spot, but like last year, doesn't open until 11 am now. The Poor Farmer's Market next door has a deli counter with breakfast though.
Mabry Mill restaurant is open for breakfast according the BRP website.
Tuggle's Gap Roadside Inn is now take-out only according to their website.

I felt completely useless to society when I retired! It’s hard to get used to!

I definitely never had that problem. FDR did me some big favors creating SS and supporting the working man, so I feel obligated to fulfill his vision of aging with dignity.
If you need to fill hours and feel useful there is always volunteer work. If I did, I would hook up with a museum that restores old mechanical stuff.

I love(d) retirement. I went back to work after 3.5 years of it - not because I was bored, but because the combination of crazy inflation and a crazier market made me think I should earn more money while I can. I was plenty busy in retirement, but the things I did weren’t money earners.
Concerning the rally - mabry mill is a great place for breakfast!

Planning to head to Willville Thursday to get a good spot. Looking forward to it!

No Virginia rally for me. Life has gotten in the way! Lol. Oh well maybe next year!

I am on my way from Arkansas. Took a small detour up into Indiana today. Stopped in Cairo, IL at Confluence Park (where the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers meet) for a small break
