Title: 950 Spada round barrel squish
Post by: Triking Tim on December 08, 2023, 01:04:37 PM
How far down the bores are Spada pistons as standard?

I'm thinking the small valve combustion chamber  and flattish piston crowns would be a better bet for optimal squish than the mid valve heads and high comp pistons of the Le Mans.

Trying to work out what squish I can sensibly achieve before the engine is stripped.
Other info required would be small valve head combustion chamber size (somewhere I found possibly 55cc but that's unconfirmed)
Compressed head gasket thickness.
The cc of the raised portion of the piston crown.

Best to get out the soft lead and a burette to measure clearances and volume. You'd be looking at getting a clearance of about 1 mm but there is no squish band to speak of on those heads:their design is pretty archaic .

I'm reluctant to to partially strip the engine yet as it's in use and I would rather have a usable vehicle until I know what's achievable.

I was hoping the measurements would be out there somewhere.
